I got the 1,000th post....Do I win a prize. LOL!
I also thought the Big East would be a disaster after Miami and BC and VT left for the ACC. It’s really pretty amazing. Remember when there was talk about whether the Big East even deserved a spot is the BCS.
Hmmmmm....I think this means I have to buy the 1000th poster a beer or a virgin margarita or something. :)
I hadn’t gotten the chance to look at that stat in any detail, but here are the L’s to the SEC and the Buckeye coaches:
1978 Sugar Bowl (Alabama) Woody Hayes
1990 Hall of Fame Bowl (Auburn) John Cooper
1993 Citrus Bowl (Georgia) Cooper
1995 Citrus Bowl (Alabama) Cooper
1996 Citrus Bowl (Tennessee) Cooper
2001 Outback Bowl (South Carolina) Cooper
2002 Outback Bowl (South Carolina) Tressel
2006 BCS Title Game (Florida) Tressel
I've always thought we buckeye fans owed a debt of graditude to South Carolina for beating us in 2001 Outback Bowl (for the the 2000 season) because it was that lost and started the ball rolling for the firing of John Cooper.
And so, tomorrow our reign as double champions ends. It’s been nice while it lasted.
I just hope it’s a good game, but one thing for sure, the Buckeyes will play much better than last year’s game, this time they’ll be better prepared. I don’t read too much into LSU’s “home field” advantage. Heck, last year the crowd was easily at least 80% Buckeye fans.
My Prediction: Ohio State 27 LSU 24
I just hope the OSU Marching Band does not plan on playing Titanic as their halftime music. LOL!
The Big 10 Network is airing the ‘03 Miami/OSU Fiesta Bowl. I only watched a little bit of this game when it actually took place...
I've got that game on tape. I think that game got fairly low ratings (since it was on a friday night). That's why they wait till a week after New Years Day to play the championship game anymore. I've watched that tape more than a few times.
I do remember that game getting less than stellar ratings, but I’ll have to excuse myself when they get to the portion of the game where Willis McGahee’s leg essentially snaps in half. That’s as gruesome of a footbal injury as Joe Theismann’s career ending injury as I’ve ever seen.
Yes that was an ugly injury. Thankfully they only showed the replay once. I think I once calculated that Miami team had about 10 or 11 people on that team that were 1st or 2nd round draft picks.
I think OhSt will win this one. They don’t have the Heisman curse against ‘em this time. And I’m not very confident about LSU’s coaching staff. But what do I know?
I’ll cheer for LSU regardless. Most of those players are Saban’s recruits . . .
TULSA (CUSA) 63 Bowling Green (MAC) 7
THis "game" did vault Conf-USA over the WAC and ACC in the bowl standings (Doesn't really say much) and firmly entrenched the MAC as the worst conference this bowl season.
Current Conference Standings :
Sun Belt 1-0 MWC 4-1 SEC 6-2 Pac 10 4-2 Big 12 5-3 Big East 3-2 Big 10 3-4 CUSA 2-4 WAC 1-3 ACC 2-6 Indies 0-1 MAC 0-3
Tonight the Big 10 can salvage a weak bowl season or the SEC can put an exclamation point on a dominant one. Either way it should be a great game
Fearless Commish prediction LSU 27 Ohio St. 23
