Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

My favorite song which he wrote and performed was “Wisteria”.

Wow. I remember "Captured Angel." Fogelberg did EVERYTHING on that album, including the cover art. Wrote it, produced it, played every instrument, mixed it, probably drove the masters to the studio ...

His music was a little too femmy for my taste, but there's no doubt he was talented. He always reminded me of James Taylor, only with some actual ability instead of a heroine habit.

Too bad. I had no idea he was ill. I have fond memories of his music, mainly from the 80s. One of his songs is played frequently at Christmas. RIP...

Praying for comfort for his wife and family. After such a long battle, families often accept the passing as a blessing. Dan’s out of his suffering. May he rest in eternal peace.

This is really sad news. I’ve been a Fogelberg fan since “Part of the Plan” in the early 70’s. Every time a new album came out was an ocassion for me. I listened to a lot of his stuff in college, and we had his song “Longer” sung at our wedding.

Saw him in concert twice.

This is really a loss. RIP.

ack!!! I was in mid-sentence to my son and just ended in some kind of noise.

How horrible! One of my favorites.
RIP Dan

Last school year my daughter was asked to select a song that was related to heroism. I suggested “Leader of the Band” as a tribute to one’s father, but my daughter had other ideas. Fogelberg’s passing comes as a surprise. He’ll be missed.

God bless Dan and his family.

The following is written by Dan from his website and imho, is very important information:

“Now for the sermon.

To each and every man....

I cannot encourage you strongly enough to get a DRE (Digital Rectal Exam) and a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test EVERY YEAR.

The medical community suggests this for men over 50, but men with a family history of prostate cancer should start getting tested at age 40.

The PSA test is a simple blood test...it only takes a minute or two. The DRE, okay, every man squirms at the thought of this exam, but hey, it too takes only a minute or two, and IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Prostate cancer can be very slow growing or very aggressive, but detected early while it is still confined to the prostate gland, it can usually be treated and cured successfully.”

I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom
When it came my time to go --
I thank you for the kindness
... and in the end, only kindness matters ... thank you for music Mr. Fogelberg.

This is a shock and I am grieving the loss for us all, and particularly his family. He blessed us with much beauty, and we will always miss him. My condolences and prayers.
