Well OK his job was to give Selig a reason to kick Bonds out of the league before he broke the record, but having blown that deadline Mitchell’s job is to come out with the whole report and name lots of names.

It could have the opposite effect by giving cover for Bonds to enter the HOF.

Probably, with a whole bunch of names in the report it will make Bonds no longer the poster boy of roids. And if there’s a bunch of pitchers on the list then roided hitters will just be “maintaining the balance”. Of course most of the fanbase has never really cared about the issue anyway, this has been an issue to reporters and sometimes Congress.
