Dear FRiends
It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.
Months ago I had to deal with a few anti Martin Luther threads and post based on fiction and hate.
FR has been is full of anti California remarks
for years.
The list could go on. No one has a corner on attacks and snarky remarks.
What I include is the type of discussion that rivals the religious 'scholars' of the Middle Ages who would debate how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. To me, its all made up stuff, this is a political site. Discussing how we who believe in freedom can unite to defeat the forces of socialism is what FR is primarily about. Arguing about how to get to heaven is probably a subject best pondered on other sites.
Wow, do those guys go at each other given the chance.
It seems much more common for the pro-Romney posters
to shield critical comments of Romney’s behavior behind
his religion — rather than addressing the criticism.
This also characterizes the candidate. Whenever he is
justifiably criticized his plays HIS religion card.
Are you serious????
Do you need screen names of people who bash on "underwear" and "cults"
Will one of the Mormons in here refute the claims found here:

Help us understand what Mormons really believe.
Eventually all will bow down to the truth of the Nation of Islam~(/sarc).
I want to know about the beliefs and views of political candidates before voting for them. If Mitt Romney is such a wuss that he needs to send his minions to FR to silence the truth, he sure won’t get my vote!
If, on the other hand, you are the wuss, shame on you. You damaged your candidate with this demand.
How much did you respect Hillary in her first Senatorial campaign when she would only answer scripted questions. If Mitt is asking for our votes to run the country, he needs to answer hard questions, and some of them will be about his faith and how that will effect his role as President.
Exactly, they do not want to be called on their actions.
Careful now or I’ll have to call you an antisemite ;-)
Glad I could amuse you. Those of us who are serious about preventing Marxists from taking over the country will just go about the adult business of respecting each other, and finding common cause in our belief that freedom is more important than some silly differences over religious practices.
Agreed on the stupidity of attacking a man on his religion and not on his positions.
Excellent post.
Thanks for trying my FRiend.
Do you want to try that one again?
No offense meant, but have you previously spoken up loud and clear when the topic was anti-Catholic? Anti-Muslim (you know, the ones who aren’t threatening us, i.e., most of them?).
Or does it only bother you when people speak their minds about something you care about?
And what a spectrum of relatives: Christian Arabs, conservative Jews, Americans of African descent, and Florida Crackers. Jesse "pork chop" Jackson's real Rainbow coalition.
Sheesh.

As I have told some Mormon friends, the Romney campaign may be the greatest PR disaster that their church has ever faced. Even in the best light, some Mormon beliefs seem odd but given the animosity of a campaign and the hostility of most of the press to religion and Republicans, Mormonism will be portrayed as completely loony.
We're not?
