>If you want to be a famous singer, there’s really only one thing you have to be good at: Dancing.
>I’m not quite serious, but music videos really changed the dynamic of what makes a star.
Then Get more serious. Half of them don’t even sing on stage, let alone sing well.
Video killed the radio star.

I think Mike looks pretty good compared with some of his former chums (see post #38). And he remains a talented guy - who as you allude, wrote Different Drum for Linda Ronstadt and continues to innovate as a businessman.

Oh man, I am SO old.
sigh. That was hammered home to me when I saw the Cream reunion with Clapton.
They looked like fossils let out to play while staying at a substance/alcohol abuse recovery hospital.
Clapton looked okay, but he was kind of fat.

Good points. In fact, I get annoyed at the rock and Roll Hall of Fame because half the acts in there aren’t “Rock and Roll” or even “Rock” music at all.
Meanwhile, many real rock acts are ignored.

x10. - I still have my 71 Gibson EB3 that I bought, mainly because of his playing.

Good lord....Jimmy Page missed a lot of notes back when Zep was at its peak. I can’t imagine how sloppy he is now.

It isn’t a rock and roll hall of fame, it is a Grammy Award Winners as confirmed by Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone Hall.
It perpetuates a false history. They enshrined the myth.

I heard Mickey on John Boy & Billy some 6-8 years ago and if I remember correctly, he was/is a lefty. There was something about Last Train to Clarksville being a war protest song.

Another cheap shot at Page from the comfort of an anonymous login - mabye if Page comes to your town you can give him a few tips, huh?

According to the authors of the song (Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart), Last Train to Clarksville was written about a draftee on his way to basic training and then presumably to Vietnam, looking to share some time with his girlfriend before shipping out. I never knew that before, either.

And many people are surprised to learn that while his mother was working as a secretary she invented White-Out and became very wealthy.

I saw an interview of The Hives on Rolling Stone where they asked each member what you should do to become a rock star. The singer, Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, said don't worry about being a good singer at first. It will make you lazy and you won't work on the rest of what goes into being a good front man. After you do it for a while the singing will come.
I wouldn't say he is a good dancer by any means but he is pretty interesting to watch on stage if not the best singer.
See what I mean? They opened for Maroon 5 on their latest tour which cracks me up to no end.

Hey, cool screen name. Saw your home page.
To be honest, Page was a bit erratic at times ... 8^)
Loved the Zep, though. - Misty Mountain hop!

Sloppy, erratic - I’ll be honest I don’t hear it. Is he any more “sloppy” than say, Hendrix? I hear Page doing the guitar equivalent of the Jerry Lee Lewis sweeping the piano keyboard. I hear Page taking chances and getting creative. But I don’t hear wrong notes or “clams” and I don’t hear missed entrances or beats. I think at one point Page himself used the word “sloppy” and it’s become something that people toss around. OK, maybe put up against Clapton, you don’t hear the same precision or note for note elegance - and maybe (maybe) Clapton at his very best beats Page at his very best (or not) - but night in night out, album in album out, Page is a force.
And not just as a soloist either, but as a producer, studio genius and band leader.
