Runaway Teen Sparks International Search, Weds Lover in Egypt
The Sun ^ | 04 Dec 2007 | ONLINE REPORTER

A RUNAWAY teen has married her Egyptian lover after searching for him for two months.

Amy Robson fled her home near Carlisle in September to track down internet cafe owner Mohamed El Sayed, 30.

Amy, who has just turned 18, met Mr El Sayed, nicknamed Noby, on a previous visit to Egypt when she split up with another boyfriend.

She sparked an international hunt when she left the village of Beaumont in April to meet up with a boat hand she had met on a family holiday the year before.

Unknown to her parents - electrician James, 43, and teacher Janet, 33 - she kept the relationship alive through telephone calls and emails.

The distraught couple reported her as a missing person after she disappeared on Good Friday while they were on an Easter break.

The sixth former was eventually tracked down in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada but by this time she had turned her attentions to Mr El Sayed.

Her parents persuaded her to return home but Amy disappeared again on September 28.

She had breakfast with them and left the house as normal, pretending to go college.

Instead, Amy caught a train to London and then bought an £800 one-way ticket to Hurghada. It is thought she partly paid for the trip through a £30-a-month Government allowance scheme designed to encourage teenagers to go to sixth form.

The police were called in again but the matter was dropped when Amy emailed her family to say she was safe and well.

She is said to have worked in budget hotels while searching for Mr El Sayed, who she finally married on Saturday.

They will be officially married at a second ceremony in a government building in Cairo this week.

Amy said: "I feel so happy now. I wish my parents could understand. They think he is not a good man but he is the best man I've ever met.

"He is the first man in my life. He is so special to me and I could never love another man like I love Noby. Do you think I have made the right decision? Because I know I have!"

Amy said she now planned to stay in Egypt and live with her husband's parents.

He’s the best man she’s ever met. He’s also the first, so take that for what it’s worth.

I think that I was probably pretty naive at eighteen, but I somehow don't think I was this naive. I hope that it works out for her, but given the track record of this kind of East/West marriage the odds seem very slim that there will be a happy denouement. My heart goes out to her parents, they must be beyond distraught.

Sounds silly, but she’s 18, so good luck to her.

Do the math! She's following the pattern her parents did. If Amy is 18 and her mother is just 33, that means her mother was just 15 when Amy was born. Her father was 25. The mother could have been as young as 14 when she got pregnant. What the hell was a mid twenties man doing with a 14 year old girl?

so they’ve been together 19 years? not bad. But maybe it’s just a typo, or she lies about her age.

Come back in a couple of years and ask her if her opinion has changed. I guarantee that she'll be crying and snotting around about how naive and stupid she was, and begging the government to rescue her and any kids that she may have with this Moose-limb.

This stupid girl is going to get exactly what she asked for, and more, especially when her new hubby puts her in a burqa, begins beating her, forbids her to leave home, and marries two or three other Muslim women to complete his household.

That is usually when all contact with the outside world ceases. She’s headed down a long, dark, winding road to hell and she does not even know it.
