(Video) Huckabee Against Waterboarding and for Closing Gitmo
Stop The ACLU ^ | 4-Dec-07 | John Stephenson

MIKE HUCKABEE: I’ve been to Guantanamo, I was there, I guess it’s been about a year and a half ago. I think the problem with Guantanamo is not in that its facilities are inadequate. It’s the symbol that it represents. It’s clearly become a symbol to the rest of the world as a place that has become problematic for us as a nation. I was quite frankly impressed with the quality of the facilities and even the attention to care that was given to the detainees, but that aside, it doesn’t alter that Guantanamo to the rest of the world is a symbol that is not in our best interests to continue pursuing.

Huckabee Against Waterboarding and for Closing Gitmo

Hey Hucabee, I'd go for that.
Juat as long as we open plenty of secret detention facilities in
many off-shore sites (even on foreign-flagged boats) and provide
a law of life imprisonment for anyone publically revealing or existence
of said facilities.

I feel Mick ain't going take that approach.

He just lost my vote. A President’s job is communication. If Guantanamo is doing its job, a President’s job is to tell the “rest of the world” to shove it, and like it. Caving in to the “rest of the world” because Guantanamo is a “negative symbol” is nothing but surrender.

This quotation indicates that Huckabee believes that Islamo-Hitlerism is a REACTION to U.S. foreign policy.

Just what the Republican Party needs: a Jimmy Carter clone.

Shut the Huck up.

I heard him on Nightline last night saying that President Bush was too hard on other countries after 9/11, and should not have told them what to do, that is “why they hate us”.

Sigh.

A wartime President he is not.

When you create a “cartel” with this corrupt political system, then you get these idiots that run for pres. I have never seen such a bunch of misfit stoops that we must pick from. That’s what this New World Order has been trying to create & they have done the “ Mission Accomplished” things. Your kids & grandkids are screwed.

You noticed how he said he thought the facilities looked just fine. And yet other people saw things differently, so he’s cower to their opinions and renounce his own in the name of not offending them.

Those, ladies and gentelmen, are not the qualities of a true leader.

Has Fred said something on Gitmo that I’ve missed? I know Romney spoke in favor of keeping it. The media had a field day with that.

No wonder they like Huckabee so much. The guy is an absolute pansy.

Agreed. One jerkoff from Hope, Arkansas is quite enough for a lifetime.

I really don’t know why anybody who knows the guy is surprised. Oh, wait, most of his newfound support comes from people who haven’t done one damn bit of research into the candidates. So much for the state of conservatism today. They claim to be conservative, and maybe they are on policy. But the next logical step is to find the candidate who is. Not one who says he is, like McCain, Romney and even Rudy. And NOT presume a Christian southern govenor = CONSERVATIVE! That’s the ONLY reason Huck has pulled ahead.

He is big government, weak on terror, weak on security here at home, pro-amnesty, pro tax, pro socialized medicine pro environmental agenda.

Ever watched those Conan skits where he takes two photos of celebrities and joins them together? Here We bring you the love child of Clinton and Bush.

That is simplistic and weak. I guess his current "popularity" has a good side - it exposes more voters to his views and positions.

Abolutely correct. If you don't agree with this, you are blind, stupid or some combination of both.

That’s two more things he has wrong. Add Fair Tax (versus Flat Tax), education of illegals, and increasing state taxes-—not lookin’ good regardless of his relationship with the Lord and his profound ability to control his weight.

Well, unfortunately “populism” and populists thrive in conditions where modern Americans need to make “hang tough", whither world criticism and angst, and make tough decisions.

And it appears our citizenry likes the comforting positions of blaming America, blaming one President, or some pol for every ill in the world, and then running for the hills, with a quick fix.

Being free of responsibility and burdens did not used to be a high virtue above all else for Americans.

And does it matter what the rest of the world thinks about Gitmo? Huckabee flat out said at the end of the excerpt that we should no longer pursue Guantanamo Bay as an option.
