Did you see the related items.... it really makes you wonder about the people who search for uranium

Thats not very surprising. Back in the day ( circa 1930 ) radiation was "good" for many things including the glands. What follow is no joke. It was for real.

Scary huh ?

There’s lots more of that stuff.

When the US Gov started finding out who was buying up the isotopes ( when they figured out it was potentially useful in weapons ) they found one large buyer. A maker of fiesta ware, those pottery plates. Particularly the orange ones. Somehow the material that was rich in uranium was useful in making it. I’ve seen a geiger counter go off the charts when waved over these dishes.

It was used as a spa treatment. Marketers worried that only “rich” folks could have this benefit made it available to normal homes by putting a piece of radioactive ore in the bottom of a crock. Now you could have your own radioactive water at home.

It was sold in tonics and elixirs too.

It just goes on and on.

Madness. All of it.

Turns out that website I google to find the suppositories has a lot of these "good" uses of radiation from times past.

I don’t have an account. Someone create a review starting with these words:

“In the name of Allah, The Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. “

Use your imagination.

That is amazing..just really amazing.

Its astounding that we got to point of being able to build the bomb without what we think of basic nuclear knowledge filtering down at all.

I sqaw a demo film of an early atomic blast where they had chickens and goats at different distances and then sent in soldiers to see which one’s died. The soldiers were told the ground was safe to walk on when it had cooled enough that it did not burn their feet through their boots. God knows what those soldier suffered later in life.

Yes I’ve read a lot of that and its true. But its worse than we just didn’t know sometimes folks wouldn’t believe it.

In those test where we did water tests and put critters on the boats part of it was to find out how deadly it was.

The scientific guys tried to institute some safety mechanism to clean off the fallout from the sailors who went on board the boats post blast. But the sailors were “manly men” and not to keen to listen to geeky laboratory types.

Many sailors didn’t follow even the washdown procedures after being on the boats ( it was just a big bomb after all ).

They brought so much radiation back to their host vessels that the handrails on the stairs got so contaminated that the cooks, who didn’t participate got enough radiation on them to make the potatoes they cooked and fed to the rest of the crew radioactive.

Tales like this are legion.

In a seperate vein X-Rays were not thought dangerous at first either and they used to have machines in the dept stores that would xray your foot to show you how your foot fit in the shoe. This was about 50 years or so.

Aye Carumba.
