Anyone catch 30 Rock's Iraq War metaphor episode last night ??? (TV vanity)

I was kind of half-watching so maybe someone can fill me in but from what I gathered they bought an old park for the poor kids from the Knucklehead City (or some such name) ghetto, took it over, and pulled down a statue of Jefferson Davis. They started playing baseball but the kids reverted to back to fighting in gangs so they brought in a "surge" of Dominican ballplayers as ringers and to keep order. A lefty view of things but still pretty funny. I have to admit Baldwin's a pretty good comic although still a total jackass.

I think the reason so many people don’t “get it” is because it is so “inside baseball” if you know what I mean. If a viewer is not a political nerd like we FReepers are then they won’t get some of the best jokes. I know that Tina Fey (actress/writer on the show) is a big lefty, but they portray the libs as pretty looney.

This show will probably be cancelled after the next season for lack of viewership, but I predict it will end up being a cult show. So many of the line are Seinfeldian. (is that a word?)

Is there any truth to the rumor that they will suspend taping of 30 Rock so that Alec Baldwin can attend the Henry Hyde funeral and throw rocks at Hyde’s family?

It's not just the political jokes, the whole show seems to be constantly making fun of itself. They try to throw more "sitcom" type of plots in (especially with Tracy and Kenneth), but the real humor is in the dialogue.

"It's after 6. What am I, a farmer?"

In my opinion, the biggest problem with 30 Rock is that the show's very strong self-referential tone makes it difficult for the majority of viewers to enjoy the show. Note that TV critics--who have knowledge of how TV production works--love the show, while the viewing audience that doesn't know this don't understand the premise of the show. As a result, it's a show with a severe disconnect between the viewing audience and professional TV critics.

There's truth in that. Then again "behind the scenes" has been done before, from Mary Tyler Moore to WKRP to NewsRadio.

This is a comedy show about a comedy show. The humor is in the characters (and they truly have a cast of characters) and the dialogue.

Baldwin should get an Emmy for the episode a few weeks ago when he impersonated Tracy Morgan's entire family.

SNL was terrible under Tina Fey's direction. But she seems to have found her calling on "30 Rock."
