Anyone catch 30 Rock's Iraq War metaphor episode last night ??? (TV vanity)

I was kind of half-watching so maybe someone can fill me in but from what I gathered they bought an old park for the poor kids from the Knucklehead City (or some such name) ghetto, took it over, and pulled down a statue of Jefferson Davis. They started playing baseball but the kids reverted to back to fighting in gangs so they brought in a "surge" of Dominican ballplayers as ringers and to keep order. A lefty view of things but still pretty funny. I have to admit Baldwin's a pretty good comic although still a total jackass.

Never watched it. I was a major Earl fan until he got in prison, (it seems to have jumped the shark since), and the Office is my favorite show. But with Baldwin’s reputation, I’ve never gave 30 Rock a chance.

I have never watched it and never will. The liberal b——who writes it is the same one who made SNL so liberal all those years. Tina Fay,I detest her.

That’s how I ended up seeing it following Earl; I agree that the prison theme does pretty much suck. The funny thing is Earl never quite topped their very first show.

I’m not familiar with her other than from that show. As I said before, Baldwin is a total a-hole but I find his comic work hilarious, especially his SNL impersonation of Robert DeNiro.

Watching sitcoms leads to BDS, Bush Derangement Syndrome.

I resisted watching “30 Rock” but it is really funny. It makes fun of liberals more than Baldwin’s character. Baldwin is actually very good in his role. Alot of the jokes deal with real time political issues that most people (except FReepers, of course) wouldn’t get. I watched all of last season’s shows on Netflicks “on demand”. It was funny when Baldwin told the kids baseball team not to “cut and run” and then he initiated “the surge”. “The surge” worked, by the way.

I would put “30 Rock” right up there with “The Office”...and I’m a huge Office fan.

I can enjoy Baldwins performances while still detesting his politics. Tina Fey’s hateful attitude toward Republicans and G.Bush especially ruined SNL for me. Don’t you remember her on the news segment of SNL?

Did you see the real Robert DiNiero on SNL when he is having a press conference and announcing the names of terrorist? Absolutely hilarious,it is around, wish I could find it for you.

Can you give a better synopsis than I did? As I say, I was kind of half-watching while I was reading the paper; what did the sign say, “ ??? Accomplished” ??

Don’t watch crap from idiots like Alec Baldwin. Life is simpler if you just don’t allow it in your home. It only encourages them.

Nah - I never did watch SNL regularly and haven’t seen it in years. Even with their “legendary” crew back in the 70s, I found about 1/2 of their bits extremely funny and the other half (like the bees, the Samurai tailor, etc.) virtually unwatchable.

I missed the “accomplished” reference. I really think that FReepers would enjoy this show. Like I said, I really resisted giving it a chance because of Baldwin and the perception that it was liberal. It’s “laugh out loud” funny and quite unPC.

I hate to admit I love 30 Rock. It is one of very few sitcoms that actually makes me laugh. The digs at conservatives and Bush especially are always there but they are usually subtle, and I have come to expect GOP bashing from the entertainment media for the last 40 years so this is nothing new.

The other plots, and the laughs, keep me watching. As creepy as Bladwin is, he is hysterical in this show. Though it is obvious that his “A” hole of a character is supposed to be a conservative and a greedy capitalist. How realistic is that? A big time Republican as a top exec with a major network? That alone is comical. ;)

Anyway the metaphor with Iraq last night was unmistakeable but so obvious it was almost like they were parodying themselves being preachy. In fact, in the end, they admitted the “surge” on their baseball team was helping them win. Though I suppose the implication was the US can only win by cheating.

The sign btw said “Fun times accomplished” or something like that.

Let’s repeat that again: the surge worked.

Baldwin is a world-class a-hole, but he is very good at comedy and “Jack Donaghy” is the role he was born to play. “30 Rock” is one of the wittiest, fast-paced comedies to come around in a long time.

It’s a shame so many people don’t seem to “get it.”

That's just cause he's on loan from GE, the defense contractor arm of Sheinhardt Wigs.

I hate myself for watching that show, but I can’t get past the fact that it’s pretty damn funny. Consistently funny.

I was impressed a few weeks ago when the old babe from the Sopranos played the lefty congresswoman as a real blockhead. But I avoided the Gore show like the plague.
