Actually, it was the aliens from Wolf 359 that planned it for the Russians.

What a crock, I suppose they thought Yeltsin would come into power?
Did they have a time machine or crystal ball?
Did they know he would rally the army to prevent a takeover by the hardliners?
Who wrote this, another conspiracy theorist or just someone trying to make a buck?
What a load of garbage.

Ah, but he failed to take into account our counter plan to import ten gazillion Mexicans and vote the Dems into power to defeat the double secret Soviet Union.
(Well, it makes as much sense as Golitsyn's theory)

Maybe, maybe not. I think they were financially screwed, but I don't think they really had much to lose. Gorbachev became an environmentalist- a convenient platform to influence international policy.
Interesting quote from the article: Golitsyn's book has been dismissed as nonsense by CIA experts, pundits and journalists. "Yet of Golitsyn's falsifiable predictions, 139 out of 148 were fulfilled by the end of 1993 -- an accuracy rate of nearly 94 percent," according to Mark Riebling's history of the FBI and CIA titled Wedge.

I’m reminded of the scene in “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” where he’s trying to do tricks on his bicycle, then wipes out in front of a bunch of little kids. He jumps up, brushes his clothes off and dismissively says to the laughing kids, “I meant to do that!”

Post any link you would like, this is a delusion of someone smoking crack as far as I'm concerned.
You figure they were behind 9-11 so we could "waste" our resources on terrorists?
All done.

This story is akin to an enemy chopping off his hands right before your eyes and saying, "See? I mean you no harm." And then chopping off his feet to further convince you. "Not convinced yet?" Gouges out own eyes.... Etc.

The Rockies used the same strategy against the Red Sox.
And the unsuspecting Red Sox fell right into their trap...

Most would laugh at this, but 60+ years ago, there was an address before the politburo from a Russian General who stated that this was indeed their plan. I remember getting a briefing on this one in a training class in the USAF back in the 80’s.
He went so far as to state that they would in fact use capitalism to obtain the materials needed in order to defeat us — effectively they would use our rope to hang us.
I never thought twice about that, until Putin woke the bear from hibernation.

I never heard of the book but at the time of the collapse it appeared to me that it was a carefully calculated strategic move on their part for reasons that were obvious — and to think, we gave Ronald Reagan all the credit.

This is Nyquist. Wasn’t Nyquist banned for life from FR?
Anyway, my neighbor and I came to this conclusion in 1984: the collapse of the USSR was strategic.
