So people seeking help from qualified technical support and those trained techs are "idiots." What makes you think they are idiots? Looks to me like another one of your "smug" opinions. How does this prove "it's not a business, it's a religion?"

I specified your evidence had to be something other than your opinion. Your "interpretation" of these pictures is only your unsupported opinion.

I'm not being smug, I am being honest. I am not saying they are not a business, but you have to admit the fanaticism of all things Apple is a bit cultish.

I know you will say this is my impression or opinion which it is, but I am probably not too far off from the truth. Here is my official disclaimer: My impressions are not true statements but theoretical observations.

Ok here is my theoretical narrative to the second picture in my post # 67.

Asian customer on far left talking to "Mac Genius" #1 about his wife's laptop that can't network properly with his Windows NT4.0 workstation. "Mac Genius" #1 looks on intently knowing while dealing with the internal conflict of realizing that the customer might actually have a more complex problem than he can resolve and more knowledge about the situation than he possesses. Being quick on his feet he goes on the offensive and says, well your macbook is 1 1/2 years old, how about the new model and I'll give you a fair deal on the trade in? It was a smart move and a saavy one for "Mac Genius" #1 as he gets the sale!

"Mac Genius" #2 is honestly perplexed with that blank stare wondering why he can't comprehend the possibility of customer Vanilla "ice" Mathers' laptop having been hijacked and keeps getting redirected to porn sites. One wonders if he wandered in there after a crack deal went down and his payment was that non-working laptop.

"Girl Mac Genius" consults with "Asian Mac Genius" to resolve a customers randomly rebooting iMac issue. Leaving her stumped and wishing she was still in high school during her protest days and "making a difference era" but she still holds onto that Feminist mantra "I am woman, hear me roar". "Asian Mac Genius" may be the only one that has a more than rudimentary knowledge of computers.

Swordmaker, your assumption that these certified "Mac Geniuses" are any different from the certified Geek Squid morons you are sadly mistaken. And to getmeouttawestpalmbeach, I wasn't picking on that "grandma" just people in general that fall for "Genius Bar", "Geek Squad", "Firedog" or any crap like that. Sure I want to pay someone $80 an hour to reformat my drive.... Ok, it's your money, but as the saying goes a fool is easily separated from his money.

Re: your smarmy and ignorant interpretation of the second picture.

First of all, if that Asian gentleman had made an appointment at the “Genius Bar” to discuss a networking problem (unlikely, modern OSX Macs network quite easily with Windows PCs whether they’re NT4.0, XP, or Vista), his appoinent would be with an Apple Certified Networking Specialist... It’s likely nothing in networking would be “beyond” him. Secondly, Genius Bar specialists are not sales people, they are all trained Apple Certified Specialists. Thirdly, Apple does not pay commissions even to its sales people so there would be no reason for him to “go on the offensive” and talk the customer into buying a replacement. Finally, Apple does not take trade-ins of used equipment.

Next, your rapper wanna-be is unlikely to have brought in a stolen Mac notebook because he actually is the owner of a major chain of clothing stores. That is his Lamborghini computer he uses on drives. Also, if his computer had been hijacked to porn sites it has to be only on his Windows partition because, to date, there are no browser hijackers for the Mac... just as there are no viruses, adware, or spyware on OSX.

As for your next sexist and racist comments, shall I just ping a few of our tech savvy female and non-Asian IT freepers to this thread to ream you a new one or just point out your error?

Now, as to your having to pay $80 an hour to reformat your hard drive, you may have to pay the “Geek Gang” or “Windows-R-Us” to do it, but never the Genius Bar... It’s free. No cost. If something is physically wrong with your computer and it’s out of warranty, it may have to be repaired and that will cost you... But the Genius Bar people have been known to give you a brand new item right on the spot... even for out of warranty items.

You are just demonstrating your ignorance, again, Blue. And your Windows experience pain. And your smugness.

The “geniuses” at my local Mac store are incredibly friendly and helpful. My favorite is a lady who looks to be about 60. Sure, they dress in black t-shirts but I kind of like the style. I get better service and assistance there than any other retailer I visit. What’s wrong with that?
