For all you mac freepers out there. Because of Vista, Apple will be the clear winner/beneficiary.

Don't see a lot of Macs running Oracle, SQL and the grandaddy of them all....Exchange, in the enterprise.
The number one platform that runs these is Win2k3. Except for Oracle where HP-UX is the clear leader.
I will say that Vista is a non-starter in this arena...nobody wants it. Heck, not much XP usage either. But there isn't any appreciable Mac presence.

Of 961 IT professionals polled, a whopping 90 percent expressed concerns about migrating to Vista. My company is still using Windows 2000.
We wouldnt want to jump in to anything hastily.
I cant see them moving to OS 10 though they are too heavily invested in Windows other products.

Religious fight on this thread - what to do instead of Vista.
I have my first Vista system at the compound. Have already set it to dual boot Fedora.
Now if I can learn enough Linux to make a difference.

>>Macs are currently the most favored alternative to Windows with 28 percent of respondents saying they would most likely to turn to Macs, rather than upgrade to Vista.<<
But what they are mainly doing is not upgrading -either staying with XP or buying new machines.

And don’t forget that pile of sludge that they call Office 2007. To begin with, it’s default settings make its files impossible to read by earlier versions and I still haven’t been able to make Open Office work with them.
And how about a user interface for Word that defaults to double spacing of lines and even the changes to fix it do not persist? An interface so confusing that it doesn’t even have a default place for quick print, and I couldn’t find the normal print button where you can adjust page layout, target printer and the like?
I happily downgraded to Office 2003, even though, for now, it has blown apart Outlook?

Bought a MacBook Pro about 3 wks. ago. Haven’t been doing much but surfing so far.
I now have 1 Mac and 2 Dell Desktops.
The Mac is superior but I haven’t learned where everything is yet.
Going tomorrow for my first one on one lesson.
I plan to replace the Dell’s w/ Macs next year. Tired of MS and all the PC problems.

My IT department will not upgrade to Vista.
They did try to let me use a Mac for my job but proprietary software does not allow it. But they are considering Macs as alternatives.

I'm getting a new notebook computer for work. I have a choice between a MacBook Pro and a Thinkpad (with XP Pro installed). I'm seriously considering the Mac, and running virtualization for any windows-only stuff.
I currently have an older Dell notebook running linux (originally came with Win2K).

Many IT professionals are turning to Mac and Linux systems to avoid installing Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system as an upgrade... Well, with respect, no. IT professionals can install and use them all. That's why we're...professionals.
And only an idiot newb would install Vista as an upgrade. Never, never - slick your HD and do a clean install. Trust me on that one.
To: Halfmanhalfamazing
I suppose I would be considered as an “IT Professional” according to their survey. There’s no way Vista is getting used at our company. I would never subject our users and helpdesk to such a crappy OS. I will go to Linux on the rest of our home PCs that are still on Windows now rather than moving to Vista. I would never subject my wife and kids to such a crappy OS.

Even Windows Millennium was not such a turkey.
The funny thing is, when XP came out it wasn't so great. But Millennium was so horrible that no one wanted to go back to it. So they stuck with XP.
With this Vista turkey, M$'s problem is that XP is still perfectly fine.
I guess it's still a good idea to burn your ships when you arrive in the New World. At least, if you're Microsoft or Cortez.

I've been running Windows since '97, but this Christmas I'm getting my first Mac. And I'll admit, Vista has quite a bit to do with it. I despise it.
