I would love to see them again. The one and only time I saw them was around '76-'77. I didn't find them to be all that great in concert, but it's being able to say you were there that matters, I guess.
I saw the Page/Plant reunion tour in ‘95 and it was extraordinary. Plant was as energetic as a kid (or a Steven Tyler- very surprising) and Page was excellent- not quite as showy as in ‘73 or’75, but better than ‘77 or’79.
Don’t count the balloon out yet. I bet they’ll surprise everybody. If they were going to be a let-down, I’m positive Plant wouldn’t do it.
I thought that then and still do now. I have the somewhat-recently-released How the West Was Won 3-CD package recorded over two nights in L.A. in 1972. It is fun to listen to and it rocks, but they just aren't that good. The Who played awesome shows in '72 and beyond. The Stones, ditto. Zep always was a lot of hype. Talented musicians for sure and a lot of their studio stuff is still great today, but as a live act it really was mostly bluster and bombast.
Me too. I saw them at the Messehalle in Nuremberg, Germany in June 1980 while stationed there. They opened with Rock n Roll, into Black Dog,into Houses of the Holy, and then into Hot Dog. It was a minute into Hot Dog when Bonham passed out while playing and the band never returned to the stage after about an hour of being asked to "stand by". Our tickets were to have been good for the rescheduled show, which never happened because Bonham passed away less than a month later.
I still have the ticket and a t-shirt, which I take good care of.
That DVD they put out 2 years ago called ‘DVD’ is pretty awesome. Takes you back to the 70’s when I was a kid growing up with my hippie parents.
Ive seen a lot of the BIG arena rockers from the day.
Frank Zappa blew them all away
I agree. I saw them in Tuscaloosa around the same time and thought they were terrible. The best show I ever saw was Jetho Tull...both times.
