Led Zeppelin have given a clear hint that they are thinking about staging a full-scale tour after their reunion gig next month.
Speaking to Guitar World magazine in the States, guitarist Jimmy Page suggested the one-off show may lead to something bigger.
"It's a bit silly not to because there is such massive demand," he said.
Until now, the band had said they were only planning to do the one show at the O2 Dome, in honour of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
But following what Page described as the "overwhelming" reaction to the show, clearly they are re-thinking things. It's estimated up to 20 million people applied for just 18,000 tickets.
"It's a bit selfish to do just one show. If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle," he said.
The show has been delayed while Page rests a broken finger on his left hand. He got the injury when he tripped over a paving slab in the dark.
"The light was very dim and I tripped over something and I landed on various bits of my anatomy but of course the crucial part was left hand, little finger," Page has previously told Sky News.
The rescheduled gig at the O2 Arena will now take place on December 10.
Around 76-77 in Detroit. I think at the time it was the largest stadium crowd ever.
Billy Gibbons has a guitar made from Muddy Waters’ home.
“Frank Zappa blew them all away”
That may be, but he had no commercial potential!
I can't wait 'til the Air Supply reunion myself.
And David Sandborne played horn on Roger Waters’ 1st solo album after Pink Floyd, The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. He also got Eric Clapton to record and even tour out the album.
Everyone "borrows" from others. Even John Lennon admitted that the "Day Tripper" riff was an idea he got from some old blues record.
Of course, then there's rap which outright lifts entire pieces for their "songs".
"Back! BACK, thing of evil!" ;)
That’s cool, never heard of it, good find.
Blue Cheer still tour. I saw them last year and dug it.
Two of the original three. The “fill in” has been in the band 20 years and the “original” guy who’s place he fills (drums?) left in the first year of the band.
It’s no reunion, they just have played all that time with no attention.
Or the lead singer from Romeo Void. ;-)
Put Paul on keyboards if you are going to “mash” the Beatles and Who into a single project.
And Ringo’s son is already filling in on the Who’s reunion shows and has since 1999.
I also saw John Entwhistle in concert with Ringo (all stars) around that time.
My youngest daughter (13) is into the Monkees, Beatles, Herman's Hermits and other 60's bands. My son (19) is into Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath. Oldest daughter (20) is into LZ, Kiss, ACDC plus some of the newer bands like Lincoln Park. Ah yes, I taught them well!!!!
My strat is close to that one, it rocks pretty well!
Zappa Plays Zappa is on tour again, only this time without Ike, Bozzio, et al.
I missed the first show and found it odd they weren’t bragging about who was in the band this time. Then I saw the lineup.
Yep, and I love all three versions. In fact, the Blue Cheer version is the one that got my son going on guitar rock back when he was about five years old. I gave him a bunch of old fortyfives to play and he would play that one over and over again, playing air guitar and doing summersaults and flips all over the house.lol! Wish I would have gotten him doing that on video.
Yes, I said hoped, past tense. :) George was my favorite Beatle.
Never saw them live, too bad, it would have been great.
Best show I ever saw was Black Sabbath just before Ozzy left (during their "Never Say Die" tour). Sabbath wasn't all that good (they didn't seem into it) but the opening act was a new band that no one had really heard of before ... Van Halen!! VH blew Sabbath off the stage.
“The Who absolutely ROCK in concert. I have never seen them live but Ive seen a lot of footage from their shows .... the prototype for a band on stage.”
Dude, you have no idea. I’ve seen them going back to the rampaging riot days in Cincy tour. I saw the show in Shea Stadium and that got rough too. Guys were dragging their girls to the front where me and a friend had been hanging out for hours watching the opening acts, David Johansen and The Clash.
When the Who came on, within a few songs a crush started from three directions, back and both sides. It got really ugly. I lost view of my friend. I had to lean down to help a guy who fell. And to breathe, I had to keep my arms with elbows out or it was flat out dangerous. Even Daltry stopping and asking people to stop and step back wasn’t helping.
And those idiot guys who dragged along their girls by the hand to force their way closer to the front. Well security was now grabbing them and throwing them over the barrier so they wouldn’t be injured or killed.
But I digress.
They sounded great then. And they sounded equally if not better at the “last” tour show I saw them in Madison Square Garden a few years ago.
Lennon also got in trouble for not crediting Lee Dorsey for him and Julian doing Ya Ya on Walls and Bridges. He made up for it by including it on Rock & Roll.
I remember a Neil Young concert where Stevie Wonder was the warm up. Stevie blew Young away...folks actually started leaving after the first couple of Neil Young songs.
