A Syracuse man who butchered two goats in his basement has been charged with unjustifiable killing of animals, city police said.
A neighbor called police after he heard what he thought was a woman screaming, police said. The neighbor went out to investigate the noise and saw Sharif Aden, 33, of 229 Maplehurst Ave., slitting the throats of the goats in the cellar, police said.
Aden told police he butchered the goats for their meat. Aden said that his religion forbids him to eat meat from an animal killed with a gun, police said.
SPCA Investigator Betsy Puffer told police Aden was already being investigated by her agency and that Aden was instructed to take the goats to a butcher and to not do the job himself, police said.
Aden was keeping the live goats in his cellar in violation of city code, Puffer said. The SPCA inspected the animals about four hours before Aden killed them, Puffer said. He was told at the time to get the animals out of the home and to not butcher the animals himself, she said.
Unjustifiable killing of an animal is a misdemeanor in the state's agriculture and markets law.

Some of us East of the Mississippi don't have a problem with slaughtering goats (or chickens, or cows, or geese, or ducks, or deer or turkey, or lamb or hogs) Goat isn't my first choice, but to each his own.

I have a problem with the SPCA or anyone/ anything, for that matter, telling someone they can't butcher their own meat.

One question often asked by people who are considering observing the laws of kashrus is, “Why does kosher meat have to cost so much?” We will attempt to answer this valid question by looking at the process of “shechita,” Jewish ritual slaughter.
Ritual slaughter of animals differs in many ways from common techniques of slaughter. In ritual slaughter, we find caution and detail in every act. In this rabbinically supervised slaughter, the animal is killed with a knife. In this act we emphasize Jewish respect for the dignity of life. Great care is taken to use a knife that has been properly sharpened. The blade must be flawless, without a nick, and perfectly smooth, thus assuring that the kill will be quick, clean and painless to the animal.
This entire process begins with the shochet (ritual slaughterer) inspecting the knife for possible flaws and nicks. He does this by running the edge of his fingernail and finger up and down the blade. The slightest nick means that the knife must be resharpened. After this, he recites a short Bracha before beginning the actual Shechita.

The goats were crying like little babies. You don’t think that is sad? Also, what about the poor children and elderly people in the neighborhood having to see and hear the pathetic animals being tortured? It must be very traumatic for them. If the muslim creep can do that to a pathetic animal, he could do it to a human from Syracuse just as easily.
