Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are quite a few websites that can help you. Just Google “made+in+usa+toys.” (Actually, I just realized I used Yahoo!). Problem is, how can one be sure the information is accurate?

I can't offer anything specific, but I have seen toy packages and websites that now go out of their way to say that the products are manufactured in the US and exceed health regulations.
Not age appropriate for a 2 year old, but the site www.zometool.com is an example of this.

Perhaps you can find a Pre-Ban version on ebay. They were made by the Crown Toy company. I think they were made in Ohio.

We used to play with rusty rebar with dead snakes on the end while drinking out of a creek that was fed from a cow watering pond.
I think the toy nannies are blowing this up a bit.

Check out Amish made toys. They have some neat ones.

I refuse to buy toys in flea markets because I've seen banned toys there. I plan to buy quite a few books for my almost 3 yr old year old grandson too. Dvd's of his favorite Thomas the Train are a must too. It makes my daughter able to get some cleaning done while he sits & watches a movie.

We’ve also instituted a no-made in China rule this Christmas.
http://www.novanatural.com/ - This is a great one. I love wooden toys. We’ve ordered from there before and will be ordering my 18 m.o. daughter a play kitchen this Christmas.
Melissa & Doug and Waldorf are also good sources of wooden toys and there are lots of on-line retailers that sell them.

Chickory Wood Products Inc. They have wooden rifles, handguns, cars, tanks, etc. We got my son the Tommy Gun last year.

The people are really nice, and the toys are sturdy and beautiful.
