Dozens of FReepers undoubtedly know this, but, sadly, yr hmbl srvnt does not.
Seems to me that I recall an online site, perhaps ESPN or ABC, where one can ''watch'' a graphical play-by-play of virtually any football game.
The game one is ''watching'' features a display of a field, where the ball is spotted and where it moves on each play, with a description of the play just run.
Many thanks in advance for any and all help, and FReegards!
You can go to espn.com and click on college football scorebaord and bring up the Gamecast.

I think it is this one. You will have to check during the game though. It’s format looks right for the one I remember using a couple of years ago.
I think cbssportsline.com has the same thing but I like espn.com gamecast alot better.
Here is NCAAF.
Go to yahoo, and then NCAAF. Click on scores and schendule. Then click on gamehannel the game you want. Here is ball st. vs illinois.
You must have explorer.

Could it be ESPN 360?
It's at www.espn.com. Then you click "NFL" or whatever it is you want. When you get that, click "Scoreboard." It tracks the games live, showing a field like you described and doesn't use a lot of bandwidth.

This might be the site, it self loads at score changes
It has a a small 0 50 0 with an arrow pointing direction and name of team.
