This one in New York also claims to be the painting of the same subject by Alma-Tadema. Now Miz Jaggers you love research - solve the problem for us. :)

They're not the same quality, at all.

: )

I’m the first one up this morning???? What is wrong with THIS picture?

Why no ma'am. I was up by 6 a.m. or so ET (that would be 3 a.m. Pacific time)...and at work by 7:30 a.m. Just got home. Yeah, baby. The weather's beautiful here today. Upper 50's, melted much of the snow. Sunny out and warm. Tomorrow it'll be 60's. Yee haw. : )

Don’t have to research. It is common to paint the same subject repeatedly and was even more so back then. The two paintings are correctly attributed.

The two paintings are correctly attributed.

The quality doesn't appear at all similar (not taking into account the obvious (and, imo, irrelevant) differences in characters painted)

I supplied two pictures for you and pictures are supposed be worth a thousand words.

Not on DD it appears. Woman´s innate interest in magic and the occult has been remarked upon since the beginning of time.

How many men would you find in a Fortune tellers booth.

I remember one discussion I had long ago and it was remarked that women are much closer to nature than men, their bodies are always intruding upon their consciousness to bring them down to earth. Thus their concern with the natural, the primitive, religions, mysticism and magic.

Oooh boy am I going to be in trouble now...

Of course, but not too often both versions are passed on to posterity.

But what I notice that is interesting - Temeda is famous for his diligent research into the history and architecture of the times. In fact many of his paintings were used to help scene builder when they made films such as the Gladiator . Quo Vadis etc.

However, the first painting does show such research concerning architecture of the time. With the earthen floor, columns and general primitiveness of the architecture. Whereas, the second and later painting is much more Victorian Roman depicting an altogether different era.

Probably sold much better too.

Well, I’ll have you know, Mister smarty-pants......

I don’t go nor personally know of ANY women who go to fortune tellers and the like and it was KING SAUL who sought out the witch of Endor, contrary to God’s warnings. (King Saul later became crazy...and was killed the Philistines.)

And, how many Kings in the Old Testament do you see going to fortune tellers/diviners? (Hint: lots.)

So........there!

: )

Naturally Niccy — everyone in the Old Testament was a primitive — but men later abandoned those primitive restraints of the earthbound, and broke the bonds of earth, raisee their eyes to the heavens and let their imagination take them to the stars.

Or something like that .. :)

That was a good comeback, Cardi, I must say. However, you didn't address the first portion of my comment: I don’t go nor personally know of ANY women who go to fortune tellers and the like...

And today's women aren't "primitive". : )

Actually that is an argument that all wimmin use. “I do not know of such a thing or person, therefore it is not so.”

It is natural for wimmin to personalise everything their whole existence is built upon relationships. Very few wimmin can stand outside their experience and discuss in an objective manner it is simply not in their makeup.

Nature made you so - lol

By primitive, I mean very close to Nature. The very survival of the species depends upon the innate nurturing, nest building and comforting that only wimmin provide.

It is not called Mother Nature for nothing.

Hoo boy, did you just step in it.

Nature made men so heavy with 'ego' that they don't think they have to listen to "wimmin" - and therefor miss out on the real wonders of the world.
