I have just got back from a late birthday lunch with my SIL. He says he has killed two birds with one stone. A present for me and the empty bottle as a present for his wife. It will make a good oil container for the kitchen.

I like his way of thinking.

I know it is not a yacht - but wait until the big 80.

Orujo Natural

Orujo is a liquor obtained from the distillation of the pomace (solid remains left after pressing) of the grape. It is a transparent spirit with an alcohol content over 50% (100º proof). Its name comes from the expression "aguardiente de orujo" (pomace eau-de-vie).

Galicia is not known for great wine except for the white wine, Albariños from the Rías Baixas. But it is famous for its Orujo which we call Aguardiente, that we all have in our coffee after lunch. Aguardiente is strong, so they normally mix it with herbal extracts to make a softer liquor which is yellow and quite palatable for sale to the rest of Spain.

We, in the American Club, gave a couple of bottles of the legal stuff to the American Ambassador and some to his staff when he visited us.

You will notice mine has a tax label on it - which is unusual, as most Aguardiente that is drunk here is in unlabeled bottles of various sizes and makes. Though they do have the legal stuff to sell to tourists at inflated prices. My BIL has his gardener, who owns a still, make it from his own grapes.

You see Darling' we also have our own Moonshiners.

Hope you had a great birthday, Cardy.

I'll be heading back to Arkansas tomorrow. I expect I'll be down at sis and her boyfriend's bar tonight. Got some unfinished business from the other night. Still gotta take them their Christmas present, too. I'm ready to get back home though. Got some unfinished business there, too....and another week of vacation!

As long as I am still breathing Sweets, it is always a great day. ;)

I hope the unfinished business does not include beating someone up.

Have a good week of vacation before you go back to work.

Do you want a sip of my jug of moonshine to open your pores as gran would say?

Now who would I want to beat up? And I don’t think I could handle my “pores” being any more open! I’m already in a very vulnerable state.

No I have never had absinthe, and by Picasso and Degas art of the Absinthe Drinker - it does not seem to be an uplifting drink, more like gin.

Gin is a great mixer, but neat, it seems to be more of a depressant.

I’ve heard they’ll be legalizing in the US. A friend’s daughter had it in Europe somewhere and wasn’t impressed.

As well as Picasso and Degas, Van Gogh’s personality upsets have been blamed on absinthe.

No suh. Them green herbs don’t cause that sort of psychic break.

I use to like a good port - as do most Englishmen who are partial to the sweeter drinks.

I occasionally have a bottle in the house to sip in the evening to go with my cheese.

And you don’t like a good whiskey, scotch or Irish?

With a good whiskey you don’t even want ice.

Thanks for the reminder. The Absinthe Wormwood plant looks familiar; I’m reading about it now.
