Colts-Patriots tilt shaping as battle of Good vs. Evil
espn.com ^ | October 23, 2007 | Gregg Easterbrook

Patriots at Colts has a powerful, compelling narrative. Namely -- Good vs. Evil.

Argument for the Indianapolis Colts as paladins who carry the banner of that which is beneficent: Sportsmanship, honesty, modesty, devotion to community, embrace of traditional small-town life, belief in higher power, even love of laughter.

Argument for the New England Patriots as scoundrels in the service of that which is baleful: Dishonesty, cheating, arrogance, hubris, endless complaining even in success. The Patriots have three Super Bowl rings, but that jewelry is tarnished by their cheating scandal. They run up the score to humiliate opponents -- more on that below -- thus mocking sportsmanship. Their coach snaps and snarls in public, seeming to feel contempt for the American public that has brought him wealth and celebrity.

The team's star, Tom Brady, is a smirking sybarite who dates actresses and supermodels but whose public charity appearances are infrequent. That constant smirk on Brady's face reminds one of Dick Cheney; people who smirk are fairly broadcasting the message, "I'm hiding something."

He forgot to mention "the cheap shot"

That delusional S.O.B. Easterbrook should seek professional help.

Funny how he forgets that his All American boy Peyton settled a sexual harassment lawsuit out of court.

He compares Brady to Cheney but doesn't see a connection between Manning and that sexual predator Clinton.

Whine bag. Brady will beat all of Manning’s records he is the best QB in the game bar none. Pats beat Colts by 2 tds. Then again in playoffs.

Pats will win the SB and after being scrutinized all year cannot be accused of cheating.

As far a running up the score, when you have the 2nd and 3rd team in and they keep scoring what do you do, tell them to stop at midfield?

What do you want to bet that Mr. Easterbrook has a picture of Tom Brady on his bedroom wall and he secretly practices “man kissing”.

To call Satan Manning a humble down to earth guy...Tell me the name of a product that he does do an ad for.
I think I saw him doing an ad for Strawberry Scented Douches. Tom dates super models... And the problem with that is? I am sure Satan’s wife is rather hot. I just hope she has a chin unlike that hick...ahuh ahuh.

“Peyton settled a sexual harassment lawsuit out of court.”

What’s this? Do tell.

The obligatory Pats fans don’t like being called “The Evil Empire” apparently...;-) Although I tend to favor any report that glorifies the Colts and denigrates the Pats, I see your point folks. Not sure I agree the Pats will win by 22 points though. MAYBE 7 points. And that’s IF they win...;-)

Something puzzles the mind here.

If someone has a video camera on the sidelines aimed at the opposing team, how can the information be used in a timely manner?

Is it more useful as a tool of distraction to get into the opposing team's heads (a certain NFL head coach has been known to do this to his opponents) or can it actually have some dynamic benefit in the 15-20 seconds between the signals being given and the play starting?

If it can have some benefit in that limited time, why bother with a camera and slow down the decision making further?

While at Tennessee, Manning “mooned” a female trainer. UT settled with her out of court.

ESPN is based in Connecticut

Connecticut Public High School Athletics have a policy that says a team can not beat another team by more than 50 points, or else the coach gets suspended for one game.
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2457707

Maybe ESPN wants the NFL to adopt this rule??

I don’t have much of an opinion on the arguments the article sets forth, but having endured—I mean—watched Pats games several times this yr, I have uncovered the key to victory against them. Put your best CB on Welker in the slot (Dallas would have done this with Newman had the other starting CB, Henry, been available), dbl team Moss, and take your chances with single coverage on Stallworth, who is pretty good WR, though not spectacular by any means. Pats running game is barely avg so not much to worry about there. They will still put up 3-4 TDs but a very good offense should be able to exploit their D for at least 3-4 TDs. So it can come down to a FG. That’s how the Colts will beat them in a couple weeks.
