Gasification is a much more expensive process than what they are portraying.

My nephew, (a Chem eng), has been working for a coal gasification plant in North Dakota. The CO2 is sold to Canada where it is injected into the ground for secondary oil production. Some of the CO2 is sold to Coke and Pepsi and yes this is belched back into the atmosphere.

The natural gas produced is being sold at market prices which far exceed the profitability hurdle of $2.25 per MBTU.

Add water to the chemical process and voila GASOLINE.
