It says he was unhurt, but it sounds to me like he might have contracted a case of bird flew, or possibly Marburg virus. In either case, if he saw it coming, he should have ducked.

I once saw a pheasant misjudge a wire on a poll. It caught him in the throat. He flipped around and fell straight to the ground. It was an amazing sight.
