Cleveland Leads Boston 2-1 in ALCS
Lofton's home run propelled the Tribe and in the eighth inning, with the Big Bats of Boston up, Youkilis, Ortiz, and Ramirez, one-two-three.
With the plate umpire calling wide, high, and low strikes against both teams, the Indians still managed to make the best of it.
After losing game one in Boston, the Tribe evened the series there, and came home to The Jake to win and take a 2-1 Series lead.
Boston's $100-million Japanese import threw more than 100 pitches in less than 5 innings.
GO TRIBE !
Correction on your post, it is Jake Westbrook that won the game, not Jay Westbrook. Jake is a local boy from my parts.
is a local boy here. City councilman.
Congrats to the Rockies.
Paul Byrd pitches tonight. Does he have the Byrds Nest fans in Cleveland like he did in KC? He was a fan favorite when he was here.
Byrd was outstanding against the Yankees. He's "all or nothing", though, as sometimes when the Indians have a big inning, and he sits for a while, he struggles to get back in his "zone", but usually it becomes apparent VERY quickly, and they pull him before it's too late.
As far as the "Byrd's Nest" goes, there is not such a thing in Cleveland for him (that I'm aware of), but if he does well again tonite, there MAY be one!
Jay Westbrook IS a Cleveland City Councilman, and former Council President.
When he was in KC several college students started sitting in the upper deck with a big Byrds Nest sign. A player pointed them out to Paul and since it was hot he had water sent up to them. He even paid for them to go to a road game.
He was also all or nothing here. But when he was on it was a pleasure to watch. Plus I liked his fast pitching
We have 40% chance of rain in Cleveland today, and it's to the Indian"s benefit that the game goes on tonite to play against Tim Wakefield and not have to have Beckett pitch a delayed game 4 tomorrow (if a rainout tonite occurs), then he could come back for the Seventh game (if needed) in the cracker box (Fenway).
YOU BETCHA !
Yesterday, in the day-before press conference, he was asked about the Shoppach as his personal catcher situation.
Byrd replied how it'd worked out that way, and called Martinez his personal 1st baseman, too! He's very articulate and funny.
“Tribe silences Red Sox”
I think not.
I think not."
You missed the game last nite?
I saw it. I don’t remember any silence. Watch and learn tonight. :)
The Rockies are already IN THE WORLD SERIES!
So, I hope the ALCS goes 7 games, irrespective of who wins!!
Okay...I've "watched and learned" the last two games, too. I can't believe how much I'll learn by continuing to watch the Sox get pounded!
I have no idea about the NL series (didn't watch any of it), and I wasn't familiar with the NL teams strengths, but with the Rockies, it appears they are the favorite to win it all, no matter WHO the AL team would have been. MSM was praying to have the Yankees and the Angels, to gain the two largest markets, but in lieu of the Yankees, they are praying for Boston (next largest market), as opposed to a Cleveland small market/small budget team.
I know Colorado has small budget/small market, so they're hoping at least ONE Major Market team makes it to the Series.
