New Sulu: John Cho Cast in "Star Trek" Movie
Pegg Beamed In For Scotty
Everything is falling into place for J.J. Abrams and the casting of the new "Star Trek" film. Now Sulu is on board in the person of John Cho, star of cult movie favorite "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle." This news according to today's Hollywood Reporter. George Takei, the original Sulu, has reacted to today's news by telling STARTREK.COM:
"Sulu's in good hands. John Cho is an exciting actor. I've seen Cho in many productions at East West Players and he always brings a vigorous sense of individuality to his roles. Under the leadership of J.J. Abrams, the Star Trek franchise is being infused with new energy and I hope John Cho plays a critical part for many years and films to come."
George Takei, October 12, 2007
By our reckoning, and according to the story, the remaining characters to be cast are McCoy, Kirk and Captain Christoper Pike. The story in THR also mentions that the parents of James Kirk are yet to be cast.

J.J. Abrams has found his "Scotty" British actor Simon Pegg. This news come courtesy both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Known for his comedic roles in "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz," Pegg also appeared as the technical wizard "Benji" in Abrams' hit "Mission: Impossible III."
The versatile Pegg joins Leonard Nimoy, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Zoë Saldana and just announced Tuesday Eric Bana in the upcoming film.
The new "Star Trek" film (as-yet-untitled) begins shooting in November, for release on Christmas Day 2008.
It isn’t untitled, it’s called “Star Trek”. They’ve even had posters made with the logo...
Yet another beloved cultural icon they’re going to destroy with revisionism.
And Simon Pegg
I loved him in “Shaun of the Dead!” It was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in quite a while. This could be really cool!
I know. And the story was on the Star Trek website. You’d think they’d know!
Simon ping
I saw him in “Hot Fuzz.” He’s a good comedian. Which brings up the question. Was Scotty the comic relief on Star Trek?
"But what about me"?
He’ll be outside the theatre selling tickets.
"I just beamed them into the Klingon Engine Room where they'll be 'no tribble at all.'"
He Khan’t do the part. They low balled the bid for his services!
LOL...............
Spock: I am not amused.
I think JJ Abrams will do better writing a movie than a TV show, because he’ll have to wrap up all the plot twists in 2 1/2 hours - I look forward to that, though his work seems to have gone downhill after the second season of Lost.
Although I’m kinda disappointed at the choice of Zachary Quinto as Spock, I don’t think he’s the greatest actor, he doesn’t look enough like Spock IMO, and I’m always gonna think of him as Sylar... yep, I watch Heroes, which incidentally has George Takei and Nichelle Nichols in the cast =D That just thrills me to pieces, especially cause Takei plays the father of a character (Hiro) who is always making Star Trek references.
I am so old. I’ve never heard of ANY of these actors. (The new ones, I mean.)
