Yup, I always thought that was not the best way to deal with the situation. Personally it would have been nice to file a class action for defamation on behalf of Linux users against MS to force their hand.

This was in response to MS saying ‘you violate our IP so you should stop using Linux or start signing licensing agreements with us or some day we might possibly sue.. Personally I think calling someone a thief without saying what, exactly, it is that they stole is pretty weak.

The patents are public record as is the source code for Linux so its not like you would be releasing industrial secrets in saying *here is patent X, you are in violation with this object Y*.
