Artist implants 'third ear' on his own arm

Performance artists are known for pushing the bounderies, but one Australian has astonished his contemporaries by having a third ear implanted onto his arm.

The Cypriot-born eccentric Stelios Arcadious spent 10 years searching for a surgeon willing to perform the controversial operation.

The 3rd ear has almost no lobe and doesn't look like it's from his own cells, based on this picture.

I saw a documentary on transplants and innovative surgical techniques a few weeks ago.

One segment had a patient that had either their ear cut off...or they were born without one. I cannot remember...but that doesn't matter. The point is...they placed a model of an ear under the guy's arm..just like your picture. After some time....they removed that mould with the patients own skin covering it...and attached it to his head.

The end result was a small scar on his arm...and an ear back on the guy's head.
