Wow, that’s some very detailed and specific study.

I wonder why study on women who’ve had abortions is not as detailed and specific?

The daughters who were the subjects of the study were all born during 1934-1944 at either Helsinki University Central Hospital or City Maternity Hospital, the two maternity hospitals in Finland's capital.

Is it just me or does this seem like a terribly narrow sample? Correlation isn't causation and there are numerous other genetic or environmental influences at play.

Good article... and timely to women in my own family. Thanks for posting, I’ll be passing the link on.

Wide, round hips, the researchers postulated, represent markers of high sex hormone concentrations in the mother, which increase her daughter's vulnerability to breast cancer.

My poor daughter is doomed.

Come to think of it...so am I.

...and then, there are my granddaughters!!!

We just keep passing on that low center of gravity thing.

There's a huge confound here: those were the years of worldwide depression and war. Europe was very hard-hit. Something about the nutrition of these girls could well have been affected. Show me the same results in the US, UK, China, India, and South America, and I'll be impressed. Correlation is not causation.

In any case this does not address the fact that the rate of breast cancer has skyrocketed in recent years. I don't think mothers' pelvic measurements has changed significantly in the last few score years.

A factor of seven seems ridiculously high, for the difference in risk between daughters of narrow hipped mothers and daughters of wide hipped mothers.

Either daughters of narrow hips have a really low risk, or daughters of wide hips have a really high risk, and this has never been noticed before. And doctors would notice, because many daughters have their mothers’ hips.

There may be some difference, but I am not believing seven-fold.

Gee, sounds like natural selection in action. /sarc
