Every type has its drawbacks. Mine is a Mitsubishi 55" rear projection HDTV. It has performed flawlessly and I am very happy with the resolution.
They may take up a bit more space than a LCD or plasma, but if it's picture quality you're after, go with a rear projection.

I agree. I just bought the 57 inch Mitsubishi dlp rear projection - its 18 inches thick but worth a little extra room.
