In a warming world, Ed Begley's cool

Of all the horrific changes that global warming is causing, none is quite as bad as the fact that we have to stop making fun of Ed Begley Jr. It's like finding out that Larry Craig has been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome.

So, knowing I had to do something to make my home less polar bear kill-y, I invited Begley over. Sure, there's tons of information online on how to reduce my carbon footprint, but blindly following the advice of a celebrity seemed much more American.

Begley immediately said yes, which isn't surprising because people cold-call him all the time for environmental advice. Lucy Liu, whom he'd never met, called to ask about his solar panels. Leonardo DiCaprio came by with his father to check them out too. And since Begley started hosting "Living with Ed" on HGTV, he's also answering about 100 e-mails a day from viewers. This, I like to believe, is why we don't see Begley in more major motion pictures.

Loved Ed in “St. Elsewhere.” That was before he was an a**hole.

I don’t agree with him on global warming, but I do respect him for at least “walking the walk” and living a green lifestyle. Unlike Algore with his Gulfstreams, Escalades and energy hog house in Tenn. Or Laurie David with her gigantic carbon footprint telling us little people how to live.

At least Begley doesn’t seem to be the hypocrite that most of the environmental left are.

So he walks the walk on environmental issues. Conserving as much as possible by choice is something to applaud. And he was a regular guest on two of my favorite shows, Arrested Development and Veronica Mars. What exactly is there to make fun of him for?

Personally, I respect the guy. Probably the only liberal who does for himself, what he preaches others should do.

I saw him at our local Costco store. He rode in with someone who drove a van.

I thought what a hypocrite. He was racing all over that store buying lots of things.
