CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In an unlikely marriage of desire to secede from the United States, two advocacy groups from opposite political traditions New England and the South are sitting down to talk.
Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully.

“right-wing courts,”
WTF?????? Are you kidding me?
Awesome. Kudos, PL, 'cause that's the post of the week or something.
These guys fit in the same category of nobodies as internet nazis, furries, and Second Life users. Heck, some of these guys might be all three. :p
Oh no, you won't let them get off that easily. They also walk away with 2% of the federal deficit (1 of 50 states) and 2% of the unfunded liabilities inside the Treasury.
Islamic fundamentalists taking over adjacent to our country can never be good. Having our nation be a swiss cheese of independent republics wouldn't be too good either. Other than that, taking it back would be good fun.
However, I love my country too much to watch it torn apart by a bunch of babies who don't get the whole "one nation, under God" thing they USED to pledge allegience to.
Only in the USA can a guy post about how his 1st amendment rights are disappearing and have a million people agree with him, without any repercussions from the authorities.
LOL
I mean, sure, we have problems, but it isn’t that bad. ;)
Agreed.
GO Vermont!! and take Ben and Jerry with you!!
I honeymooned with my wife at the hotsprings in Cedarville, near Alturas in Modoc county back in july 04. In a perfect world, I'd have never left. Just for grins I looked up their voting record for the 04 election, and they went like 80% Bush.
Paradise.
Only downside I can see is the need for hundreds more miles of border fence.
Who says we have to defend them?
No blood for syrup!
At least it’d finally get built.
Dear Canada: We’ll swap you. Vermont, for British Columbia.
Deal?
BC’s a beautiful place, full of mountains and streams and forests and trees and water. Great fishing and hunting. But it’s as moonbatty as Washington, if not more so.
I thought BC was a lot less socialist than (say) Ontario and Quebec.
Hmm. Maybe Alberta?
Northwest Territories perhaps... Never been there, but it seems the more remote you go the more conservative you get. It’s got good proximity to AK too.
Either you pay no attention to what is happening or you’re really dense (perhaps both.) Our gov’t has bigger fish to fry than some “guy” like me. Once they are done with them, you may be surprised to learn how your rights have been curtailed along with theirs. Pay attention!
The NAU superhighway is already working its wonders.
