Lecture hall photo shows widespread Mac use

Some years back, my husband, who's been teaching HS science for almost 40 years, suggested buying Mac laptops for the science department of his school district.

For many years, my husband's students had been using very old Apple IIe's and GS's for lab work. For the most part the computers were used while connected to sensors which measure light, time, sound, heat, etc.

The man in charge of buying computers told him, "Apple is going belly-up" and bought PC laptops. Those PC's are rarely used in class by any of the science teachers.

My husband is still using his "old, reliable" Apple IIe's and GS's.

I know when I go to wi-fi coffeehouses that a big percentage are using Macs. And they do have a larger share of laptops.

Mac is beginning to own the laptop world. I don't own a Mac, but the next computer my household gets will be a Macbook. One thing I'd really like to see is laptops going to solid-state storage rather than disk drives. I saw a 16GB SD card the other day. It's still kind of expensive, but my this time next year I expect it to be $50 or less.

That’s what brought me to mac. Ran out and bought a powerbook when Mac OS X came out so I didn’t have to deal with linux rpm’s any more nor contort myself putting solaris on my intel box. It was a full blown unix platform I could use for software development plus it had a nice UI to handle all those multimedia things I wanted to happen with no effort.

What’s with the person in the fourth row back, left hand side, second in from the steps. Is he(or she)a victim of an incomplete education? Get with the program and get a MacPro laptop like most everyone else has there. Sheeesh!

I was very likely in a class like this a short while ago. I heard a number of my classmates raving about the ease and security of the things. I saw some of the ads making what I thought were totally outlandish claims like no spyware or viruses--things that I've had a HUGE problem with while running Windows. Long story short after visiting an Apple store once or twice I know have a 24" iMac at home and white MacBook for everything else.

Suffice it to say, OS X which I had never even considered a few years ago has driven me from Windows forever. I'll never go back.
