I’ve suggested it, and I think others have too. Round up every single pit bill in this country, airlift them to Iran, and let them loose in the presidential palaces over there. Two problems solved with one solution; we get rid of two uncontrollable species of dogs.
Deadly dogs Different dogs have accounted for the lion's share of fatal dog bites during different years. In the 1970, it was German shepherds - then pit bulls, then rottweilers. For the past few years, pit bulls have been the deadliest dog again. Poor Misunderstood and Misidentified Dog of Peace ping. :-)
Caesar?
I thought the same thing when I read that but evidently there are some breeders who advertise "redbone" pitbulls. You can google it and find them. Since AKC doesn't register this breed I guess you can call them anything you want to.
Ah. Thanks!
Red nose?
Does anyone know if neutering and spaying pit bulls reduces their chances of snapping unexpectedly? I had a brief talk with someone aobut this and he mentioned that the dogs whne they hit sexual maturity - there is a change that takes place - and they tend to be more aggressive towards other dogs and such.
If there is a serious hormonal component to this, I would think getting them fixed would reduce the problem. It does with other dogs and even cats and rabbits at reducing or eliminating some hormonally driven behaviors.
Yes it does, significantly. Sadly, many of these pit bull owners don't fix their animals as aggressiveness is one of the "cool" traits that they like about these dogs.
Well, if this is true as you say, why not target a spay/neuter ordinance at pit bull owners? It’s sure more palatable to the pit bull owners than ordinances that ban an entire breed.
How many pit bull owners need to be sued for everything they have when their animals permanently maim/deform or kill someone? Why not force them to fix their pet if they are not a registered, reputable dog breeder given the ‘special’ nature of this particular breed of dog?
NO more calls, please.
We have a winner.
“A family friend rushed over and shot one of the dogs. Both dogs ran away.”
Shot or shot at one of the dogs? A bit confusing.
“Authorities say the dogs have never attacked people before
I’ve heard that one before. “He’s never bitten anyone before.” or “He barks alot but won’t bite you.” Yeah, right.
“Why would taking out the garbage set these dogs off?”
Maybe grown-up sonny boy got tired of his mom nagging him to take out the garbage and he decided to stop the arguments once and for all.
A common story.
A pit is a dog like any other. they are the favorite canine weapon of irresposible owners and have to be treated as an animal. I own a very good one, but I am no fool. I do not allow my dog around male humans that he does not know without firm control. (He loves women, I swear a woman could rob me blind while I am at work and he would jump on them and lick them at worst) As for these stories of pitts attacking their owners, all I can say is that the owner was so distant from them that the dog didn’t know they were in the dog’s pack. People who know nothing about a dog get these animals and “post” them out front, figuring they are the master without any training because they bring food to the dog when nessecary.
The Pit was breed to take down and kill. That is a fact, but if handled by a controlling owner, they are a wonderful pet. One that needs disipline and a seasoned owner, but nonetheless a great companion.
amen brother
Yeah, I won’t get rid of my testicles, even though they cause all kinds of trouble for me socially. They are one of my “cool” traits.
