Is it typical to get receipts for casino winnings?

note to self...do not carry “large” amounts of cash on the road until the government is reigned in...

Yes, I think so. If you win over $1200. ... at which point it becomes “taxable” and is reported to the IRS.

Perhaps he should have refused to let the officer search his car...”May I go now officer?”

What he should have said:
“Where am I going ?”
“None of your business, give me the ticket or get a warrant”

Depends on the game one is playing. If playing table games you can win this amount without receipts or notice to IRS.

Merrill said if it is determined the man obtained the money legally it will be returned to him. What a lovely policy.

Yup!
Since when is speeding “probable cause” for searching the car?
Now, do I believe he won this money?
NO!

If it’s over 1200 IN A SINGLE EVENT...
I’ve won much more than that on slots, but by winning at four or five hundred bucks a roll... but if the slot machine pays out more than 1200 ON A SINGLE SPIN, then they got ya.
Same thing with the table games. I’ve won more than that at poker and never got hit up for it. But I was on a table once where somebody hit the jackpot (he had four of a kind - four tens - and lost to a guy who had four kings).
I had already folded out of the hand, but my table share was 1300+, so everybody had to fill out the forms.
