Griese to replace Grossman at QB for Bears
NFL ^ | 9-25-07

The NFL Network's Adam Schefter has confirmed that Brian Griese will start at quarterback Sunday for the Chicago Bears.

Griese will replace Rex Grossman, who threw three interceptions as the Chicago Bears fell to the Dallas Cowboys 34-10 on Sunday night and did not get a vote of confidence from his coach a day later.

"Will Rex Grossman start Sunday?" coach Lovie Smith asked on Monday, repeating the question. "Well, our evaluation process is going on right now, and if you come out to practice Wednesday, you'll have a better idea of who will be starting at all positions."

Smith gave his usual answer when asked Sunday night about Grossman -- "Rex Grossman is our quarterback" -- but his tone was different on Monday, fueling speculation Brian Griese might start Sunday against Detroit.

Grossman's supporters would have a hard time arguing against the move, considering he ranks 23rd in the league with 500 yards, has a 45.2 passer rating and is 47-of-89 (52.8 percent) with a league-leading six interceptions and just one touchdown.

But is Griese the answer?

But is Griese the answer?

At this point they'll take a quarterback who just won't throw interceptions.

But is Griese the answer?

If Griese is the answer, it's an awful question.

And Chicago becomes an eligible draft trading partner in 2008, when the Dolphins seek to move out of the top 3 and Chicago looks for a top-flight QB prospect...

Well I was a very pleased with his work Sunday night. I don't understand the uproar. :)

Okay to be fair to Wrecks, the first INT was not his fault but the WR (Muhammad I think) who stopped on the route, and Henry just simply stepped in front of him.

Getting drafted by the Bears as a QB is like getting the kiss of death.

Chicago plays the Lions this week, with the way they got lit up last week its probably a good place for Griese to start.

Whatever. The Bears aren’t playing the Cowboys again this season.

What about a possible rematch in January?

Yeah, the Bears have never really impressed me as a team or as an offensive powerhouse. I don’t know what it is about the 53 men they field, I just can’t really put much faith in their offenses. Granted, they’ve been recovering from Wannstedtization.

No way, MPF, that was a team in disarray I saw Sun night. They have other problems such as poor WR play, no running game, and the OL is underachieving. Griese is not the answer.(Should put Orton back in there IHO) Then you have the injury bug that’s struck the defense. I would not be surprised if they finish 3rd in their division. That’s right, I said 3rd...

Think he’ll get the Norv Turner third shot at a head coaching job?

It’ll be interesting to see how they do against Detroit and Minnesota. The Packers must be salivating for their first shot at the Bears.

I don't see it. My Cowboys showed the NFL how to beat Chicago in every phase of the game. Their defense and special teams are vulnerable now and they have no offense whatsoever.

Plus we have that whole "Super Bowl Loser" trend going against them. I doubt they make the play-offs.

As a die hard Bronco fan who endured the Griese era, I second that!
