Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Tuesday for investigation of misdemeanor drunken driving after he was stopped for making an illegal U-turn and failed a field sobriety test, authorities said.
The actor was pulled over about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles, said Officer Kevin Maiberger.
Sutherland, 40, tested over the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, said Officer Karen Smith. Police declined to say what his blood-alcohol level was.
Sutherland spokeswoman Annett Wolf declined to comment.
The actor was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to Sheriff's Department records.
Maiberger said Sutherland was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
Sutherland was scheduled to receive the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists award of excellence Tuesday afternoon at a ceremony at the Canadian consul general's Los Angeles residence. Alliance spokeswoman Susan Ponting said she didn't know if he still planned to attend.
Sutherland won a best actor Emmy award last year for his performance on the Fox TV series "24." The series is set to return to the air in January.

David Hasselhoff’s ex-wife, Pamela Bach, turned herself in for booking on a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge stemming from a fender-bender in North Hollywood.
Bach, 44, was booked Monday afternoon and released about three hours later, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records. The actress is accused of backing her car into another vehicle on Jan. 22.
Bach’s lawyer, Peter Knecht, has said Bach inspected both cars and left when she did not see any damage. An onlooker took down her license plate number.
Knecht didn’t immediately respond to a phone message left early Tuesday seeking additional comment.
Bach and Hasselhoff, who starred on “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch,” were married in December 1989. They divorced last year.
Larry Birkhead’s ex-lawyer sues him for defamation in LA
http://www.bakersfield.com/119/story/244546.html
Larry Birkhead’s ex-lawyer has filed suit, claiming Birkhead attempted to damage her reputation by making defamatory remarks.
Debra Opri’s lawsuit, filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses Birkhead of falsely claiming in a CNN interview with Larry King that she was a source for “Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death.”
The book, by journalist Rita Cosby, claims Birkhead, the father of Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn, worked with Howard K. Stern, Smith’s lawyer and sometime boyfriend, to manipulate the media and maximize profits after Smith died.
Opri denies providing information to Cosby. She contends his remarks were “planned and malicious.”
Birkhead’s attorney, Michael Trope, said Tuesday he had not seen the lawsuit, but added that “the truth is a defense.”
“What Larry (Birkhead) said about her on the Larry King show is true,” he said.
The lawsuit claims defamation, fraud and other allegations, and seeks damages, including about $200,000 Opri says she spent to hire a crisis management firm to “salvage” her reputation.
Birkhead and Opri also are locked in a separate court battle over legal bills from the Smith paternity case.
In December, a Los Angeles judge ruled in Birkhead’s favor in the paternity case and a DNA test later revealed that he was the father of Smith’s daughter.
“I’m not as think as you drunk I am, officer. Hick!”
Catfight over who was really pitching and who was really catching?
I feel for the kid,, what a mess.
Sad news about Keifer. Probably drinking away the pain and depressed about his last season of 24. /sarc.
Great news about Hasselhoff’s wife. She is one nut job. (OK not great news but dang it is hard trying to be a good person). lol.
Mama said, "Nothing good EVER happens after midnight" ... "What mama don't know won't hurt her."
Larry was coming out looking like the good guy till Rita busted him in her new book.
Reporting how Larry & Howard were working the Media to their best interest.
I've only read excerpts from her book.
The real pain is watching bodycount drop ,, all the love interests and stuff, they need to just cut it out. enough already, half the women on that show are on TRanqs as is. :-o and please to not have them do anymore chemical plots, nukes are bad enough.. more car chases and blowing stuff up,, less huggsley wuggsley .. and like the return of Jack Bauer from the belly of the red beast, I might be there, along for the ride. ;-)
Rita .. hmm, I’ll look for it at Costco. ;-)
H’weird tripe.
$25,000 bail for a misdemeanor DUI? That’s awfully steep.
he probably tried the ‘Don’t you know who I am ,, Im Jack Bauer.’ on ‘em. oh well..
4th time.
I agree. I hope they learned some lessons from last season. I can “forgive” them for one season. It must be difficult to complete this show. Every show has that season that should not have been. 24 had it and should not have another one. If it is I will just continue to watch the first 4 seasons and that will be that.
