Motorcyclist crashes into mortuary, dies (San Diego)
San Diego Union - Tribune ^ | 9/24/07

SAN DIEGO – A motorcyclist was killed early Monday morning when he crashed against a mortuary while trying to elude California Highway Patrol officers on city streets at up to 100 mph.

The predawn pursuit began shortly before 2:45 a.m. when two CHP officers spotted the 25-year-old rider speeding south down Euclid Avenue at 60 mph, said CHP Officer Brad Baehr.

The posted speed limit on that street is 35, Baehr said.

As the CHP unit made a U-turn and tried to catch up, the motorcyclist ran a stop light and turned west onto Imperial Avenue, reaching triple-digit speeds.

“He was looking over his shoulder. He was well aware of (the officers') presence,” Baehr said. “They were the only two vehicles out there.”

Seconds after crossing over Interstate 805, the fleeing motorcycle came to the first of two sharp S-curves on Imperial Avenue as it passes by the Greenwood Cemetery. There, the chase came to its deadly end.

“The motorcycle struck the curb, hit a mailbox and then a building. The rider was ejected,” said Baehr.

The motorcycle struck the Cypress View Mausoleum. The rider's body landed in front of the building, about 50 feet from his machine, said Baehr.

“The officers were attempting to stop him for excessive speed. We don't know why he ran or what the motivating factor was with that,” Baehr said.

The rider was a San Diego resident. The man's identity is being withheld by the Medical Examiner's office until his family can be notified.

“He must have been in a rush to a funeral.”

I think that was a James Bond (Connery) comment to a bystander after
Bond edges a competitor’s car over a very, very tall cliff.
(can’t remember which film)

Pretty cold statement. He has a family that probably doesn’t share your views. Not condonning his actions but was a stupid kid that got killed doing a stupid act.

Anybody want to bet this guy's family will sue the cops and the city? It's never the criminal's fault - it's the fault of the eeeeevil cops who tried to stop him from breaking the law. I truly wish I was being sarcastic here, but it's all too common. :-(

No you don’t. It’s a given that no mention = Dumb-o-crat. The lame-streamers would NEVER miss a chance to trash a Republican. Sometimes they’ll even go so far as to try to trick us, as in “Rep. Gary Condit”.

Well, at last we weren't blasted with the usual "donorcycle"/"murdercycle" crap.

The deceased met his end in the performance of a criminal act. You will find little sympathy here for those who so meet their demise.

At least this perpetrator did not take someone else with them.

I guess this just proves that folks are just dying to give the mortician some business...

I have a friend who is a mortician. He offers 10% discounts to all walk-ins. I wonder if this would qualify...

I'm gonna guess he was on a rice burnin crotch rocket.

A few years back I watched one of these mopes try to take an x-way off ramp (45mph posted) at about 80 for no good reason. Didn't work out too well for him. (I could take atcurve at about 53-55 in my Benz and that was pushing it)

I think they eventually turned him into cat food.

(I used to ride a HD (Sportster XLCH) so yeah, I'm not a rice burner fan)
