I will have to double check the Motherboard for the Ram limit. Eventually I will be adding more Ram and a second video card. This will be the first time I have every played with RAID so I am looking forward to the new experience.

You are using 64-bit Windows? I do not see that very often.

My Bad, I have and downloaded the 32-bit version. That is what I get for posting before coffee.

Question Sir.

My IT guy at work says that any 32bit OS cannot address more than 3GB of RAM. Is that true?

No VISTA.

Good luck. You're looking at Apple.

The chipsets used in many motherboards stop at 3 GBs. It is a common problem.

I have seen recent motherboards that support additional memory.

Hey maybe you can help me.

I've a G4 Ibook...that I purchased second hand. It was a leased machine.

It works fine...but I wasn't given the password..( The seller didn't know it..) to operate many of the laptop functions.

I've called Apple about it...but they act like they really could careless about my problem. Or they say send it in...but we might have to change the HD, or the OS for $600 or so. That's crazy....

There has to be a way to change a person's password....if they've forgotten it. Doesn't there?

I am assuming that you are talking about the administrator password... to change the password, you will need access to an OS X install disk. Boot from the Install disk by starting the computer while holding down the "C" key. Ignore the installation application that starts up. You can actually quit from it. There is a menu choice for other apps including a Password Utility that allows you to change the administrator password. Change your password to something not easily guessed by knowing you... and then reboot without holding the "C" key. Voila... new password.

After Action Report...

Well, I fumbled with the RAID for a bit but finally got the striped drives working. I had no trouble using the XP disks from my old system. All the drivers have loaded no problem. The only problem is that the new system overloads my UPS and I have to order a bigger one.

All in all, I am quite pleased. I have already completed another WU in F@H and I am impressed with the speed and stability so far. I will give more feedback if I run into any unusual problems or pleasant surprises.

Thank You All for your support and feedback!

Good info ....thanks for taking the time and sharing.

I use a local CPU outlet up in the Panhandle and build what I want for desk top. No real “deals” but I get what I want for multimedia and producing working copies of family documents and pictures etc and no proprietary cow crap infused into it .

I too am educating myself with regards to vista that came on a new HP laptop. I am giving it a fair shake for now as I am trying to learn why M$ is sooooooo fond of it.

But my desk top is XP pro and will stay such I suspect.

Only grief for now with vista is that my favorite firewall zone alarm pro WILL NOT WORK ON VISTA OS !

Tried 3 different times on the laptop and it puked and choked big time every time. Zone alarm claims they are having no problems with Vista ZA version. I have never had a problem w/ ZA until Vista version was added to the mix.

Tabs in Vista are something I don’t like and the security system in vista slows down my broadband to the point of frozen mud at times.

Thus far , giving Vista a fair peek and tweak with my consumer ability and knowledge level......verdict is that it is junk !
