Liz Gabor calls the odor man sweat. Though shes loath to admit it, the aromatic scent makes her feel, as she calls it, a little frisky. My friends think Im crazy, but I think male sweat is kind of pleasant and, well, kind of hot, says Gabor, 28, a customer service rep and happily married mother of two young girls.
Gabor doesnt have a honker thats on the fritz. Rather, her penchant for man sweat is all in her genes, according to new research from Rockefeller and Duke Universities published this week in the journal Nature. Scientists have previously found an association between male sweat and female arousal, but this study is the first to find a gene that is linked to the ability to smell a specific chemical in the sweat. And that, they say, may be a revolution in the understanding of how our olfactory sense functions.
According to the Rockefeller and Duke researchers, about 70 percent of adult men and women have the genetic capacity to perceive a particular chemical called androstenone in male body odor. To them, the testosterone-laden substance can take on a pleasant bouquet similar to vanilla or other sweet or woodsy scents. Others who have a functional copy of the gene perceive androstenone as less than pleasurable, akin to the aromatic elixir of stale urine. About 30 percent of adult men and women cant smell androstenone at all, leading researchers to suspect they might be missing the gene responsible for smelling the aroma.
To figure out exactly who could smell the scent of androstenone, researchers presented 400 participants with 66 different odors, including woodsy scents like pine, strong scents like garlic, and esoteric odors like methanethiol, a man-made scent that is similar to the smell of urine after a person has eaten asparagus.

Midweek nonsense ping...
Not nonsense.
I am not actively searching for men guess you can say I am dorment 20 yrs now.
However sometimes I catch a whiff of a certain oder from some men that turn my head and I to get that frisky bounce but quickly move on in a mode of control.
Whats more interesting when I follow my nose to see what is so interesting to peak my attention the smell goes with the looks of a male I would find attractive.
When I put new linen on my bed I often put a dash of good mens colonge on my sheets like Burberry or something with a good cigar base scent makes me feel comfy in the nice clean sheets.
Damn! I should have installed that odor board in my Mac.
Well, crap! Do you write romance novels? I mean, you could make a fortune! [/fanning self]
Tehehehe, I like your nom de plume! That was a great movie!
It is lovely!
Happily, I get to be one of the 70-lucky-percent!
There’s only one other scent as lovely as the scent of a man—the scent of a baby—totally different but both heavenly.
Sometimes it’s nice to sit at the “guy lunchtable”—just for a fill-up.
Now that’s just nasty!
Reminds me of the traveling sales-girl who came into our shop selling perfume and cologne.
My response to the sales pitch was, “But my natural scent is so awesome. I don’t want to cover that up.” By boss laughed, she didn’t.
This is nasty.
That was science. Arrr!
I apparently lack this genetic trait. I don’t mind clean sweat, but smelly sweat??? ewwwww! And man’s cologne, on a man that i want to drive me wild....just drives me wild.
I like the sweat and look of a man who has built his muscles up through living, not just in a gym.
And a cowboy...(fanning self) wooo!
Fresh (non-beer smelling) sweat coming from a man who was clean before he started sweating is one thing. (smile)
But a man who reeks of old sticky sweat or old sticky beer scented sweat is another. (barf)
Not sure if this one passes the, uh, smell test.
I've got your man sweat right here, sweetheart!
Ya’ll are making me “howl”
with laughter!!!
Say, GSC, that nose looks like it’s done too much smellin’!
