I'm sorry that your father died of lung cancer at the age of 60, but that doesn't give you the right to tell me I can't smoke in my own house or car.

Sorry, but you are the one who is wrong. The Founding Fathers wanted post roads built by the government. While the primary purpose was delivering the mail, they recognized that these roads would aid in commerce that would strengthen the economy and the nation. The government uses public money and sometimes eminent domain to build these roads. The use of these general powers over the people means that use of the roads is a public right. Like any other public right, there can be some limits set on how that right is exercised. Free speech is a right, but someone may not shout in a residential neighborhood at two in the morning. However, beyond limited and reasonable restrictions, driving is a right. Those who have persuaded you otherwise are ignorant of the intent of the Founding Fathers.

The ‘right’ to drive is something you earn by passing your license test.
If they are doing checkpoints, and you aren’t drunk, and driving. You’ve got nothing to worry about.
If you are drunk and driving, then you belong below the jail.

The Bill of (some) Rights is but a “For Example” list of specific areas where government is not allowed to tread. It is not all inclusive, NOR IS IT MEANT TO BE. The Ninth and Tenth amendments take care of that. The whole constitution is specifically and by design a LIMIT ON THE AUTHORITY OF GOVERNMENT. That’s it and all... That you would trash it when it suited your wants speaks volumes about you... and not one syllable of it any good. And driving would be covered under the Ninth Amendment...
Well, it’s rather obvious to me you’ve had a family member or loved one killed by a DD. But that taints your idea of freedom. Yes, I do agree they should be taken off the road, but that’s not what he was talking about.

DUIs are the ONLY laws in America where you can be tossed in jail NOT because you present a “clear and present danger” (much less an ACTUAL danger) but because you belong to a demographic which STATISTICALLY (and the statistics are flawed) causes problems.
If you are for strong DUI laws, then you should rationally be in favor of locking up every 12 to 22 year-old African-American male in the United States since STATISTICALLY, they are responsible for more property/violent crime than any other demographic. Just makes sense, right?
Feel free to expound on those with which you don’t agree.
