(AP) EDISON, N.J -- A man shot an ex-girlfriend in a shopping mall here before killing himself, authorities said.
Police arriving at the Menlo Park Mall at about 9 p.m. Friday found Maliha Janjua, 22, of Carteret, shot in the Gymboree children’s clothing store, where she worked, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Raynell Anaya, an ex-boyfriend of Janjua’s who worked at the Macy’s store at the mall, had shot at Janjua several times, hitting her once, according to prosecutors.
The 23-year-old South River man then turned the gun on himself, prosecutors said.
Janjua, according to prosecutors, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was in stable condition on Saturday.
There were no other injuries.
The Gymboree store was still closed Saturday morning. The Star-Ledger of Newark described what looked like heavy tarps covering windows, and glass paneling in the doors.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene the night before. Myles Reuben, 16, of Edison, told The Star-Ledger that a woman who was bleeding staggered out onto the mall walkway and collapsed.
