Same, Saints-Chargers would’ve been so much better... but beyond New Orleans, who else was there? The NFL didn’t want to redo last year’s AFC championship game, and if you have Chargers-Colts, you can’t have Saints-Chargers. Can’t really have Bears-Colts, either, since they were in the Super Bowl.

Saints-Chargers is a CLEAR Chargers win, though.

I’m sure you did as well.

Honestly, I yelled out a couple of obscenities.

Here’s the Dolphins on Thursday night, prepping for the first game of the 2007 season after the second-worst season in team history, finally about to move on... and here comes a note from ex-Head Coach Saban, clouding their minds when they should be thinking about Head Coach Cameron.

I hate Saban even more now, despite his reinforcing the defense here.

The deal is the Super Bowl champion has to be home for the season opener so they have to pick from their eight home opponents. Other than New England (which I’m sure CBS fought to protect) the Saints were the best matchup for Indy.

I guess the only way he could have made you more angry is if he took the Bills job.

Oh, I know. I’m speaking in terms of hypothetical matchups. We’ve already seen Bears-Colts, we’ve already seen Pats-Colts, and if the idea is to see Saints-Chargers, you can’t have Saints-Colts or Chargers-Colts. What other team is there? Ravens-Colts? Saw that in the playoffs. Broncos-Colts? Interesting, but not as interesting as Saints-Colts.

It certainly has the most potential for points scored.

I’d be ecstatic if he took the Bills job; that’s a guaranteed two wins a season.

Honestly, the only way I could be more enraged with him is if he left the Dolphins to coach the Hurricanes. It would have been just as devastating to the Dolphins, and he’d still be right there in Miami... though for how long, I don’t know; the ‘Canes are popular, but they don’t trump the Fins down here.

How do you feel about them and the Dolphins sharing the same field once again?

I like it. Once the Marlins’ lease expires in 2010, it means Dolphin Stadium can finally be outfitted solely for football. Hopefully this means the installation of FieldTurf.

Why can’t they do it until then? The Twins and Vikings play on the stuff.

Thank God it’s finally here!

It seems like forever between seasons doesn't it.

I wish I knew. My guess is that since the Marlins’ lease is about to run out, they want to defer the expense until after they leave.

I don’t know if I could make it without the draft half way in between.

Are the Marlins going to get a ballpark deal done soon?

Bud Selig came to town a week or two ago to negotiate with the city of Miami. It looks like a deal may get done fairly soon now that UM has vacated the Orange Bowl.

In all likelihood, it’ll be a retractable roof stadium on the Orange Bowl’s site. The Marlins would like a downtown waterfront location (think the SF Giants’ AT&T Park, with a roof, just down the street from the Miami Heat’s American Airlines Arena) but they may have to settle for the OB site.

Either way, UM’s vacating the Orange Bowl freed up $60 odd million dollars that would have gone towards stadium renovations, so that money can now be put toward financing a new Marlins stadium.
