Saddam was the aggressor, the UN was actually another. Finally, the leaders I helped elect refused to back off, to draw another line, to appease fraud and aggression. They called the UN on its failure to follow through on the contract. The UN acquiesced at last, and our Nation legally enforced the contract.
There are consequences to breaching the non-aggression principle, or the concept is worthless.
