wow! 7000 registers? I remember doing programming for the 68HC11. That had three registers, two 8 bit ones and one 16 bit one that was actually just the sum of the two 8 bit ones. Glad I moved into power and controls.

Meanwhile several dozen product cycles will elapse making
Radeon even longer in the tooth.

This will help support legacy video cards on Linux distros
but the bleeding edge stuff will still be closed source.

Embedded users might use the OS release as a starting point for
specialty drivers such as for displays, handheld, etc.
