ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 40-year-old Denny's waitress was fatally stabbed in the neck and chest in front of dozens of customers and children at the tourist-filled International Drive restaurant, according to police.
Witnesses said the victim was met by her boyfriend Alejandro Casa, 47, Sunday night in the lobby area of the restaurant located at 7660 International Drive and Sand Lake Road.
Casa approached her and then repeatedly stabbed her with a steak knife before being chased out of the restaurant by other employees, according to witnesses.
Casa dropped the knife and lost a shoe as he fled the scene, police said.
"(The victim) was an employee and she was working on the floor when a Hispanic man walked in and attacked her viciously and intentionally," Orange County sheriff's Capt. Steve Lang said. "When he finished the attack, he was chased out of the restaurant by several people. He got away from those folks. We set up a perimeter but so far, we have not found him yet."
The homicide comes during a crime wave at Orlando's tourist spots, WKMG-TV reported.
Tourists said they were shocked to see the stabbing.
"I had dinner last night here and the lady who got killed was the woman who served my wife and I," Orlando tourist Juan Luis said.
"Even in England we have our problems but unfortunately there is a lot of violence and things like that going on," tourist Karen Wilkins said.
Police did not release the name of the victim because they said they were concerned about her children. Deputies said her children were missing late Sunday.
Investigators also said the victim recently obtained a restraining order against Casa but it had not been served.
Anyone with information concerning this crime is urged to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
We must ban all the guns, this would never have happened. /s
Seriously, a very tragic ad sad example of brutal immorality. Too bad none of the FL diners had a concealed weapon to take the guy down.
I too would like to know just what you are referring to as racist comments.
Yes, this is something all firearm self-defense programs stress people to remember and know when they deal with aggressors/criminals. Very important to tell it to cops/your lawyer if you ever have to explain why you felt your life was in serious danger.
Most people live in a house where 21 feet is a real distance someone can be from you and get to you pretty darn easily. Often people are much closer when they fire their weapon.
I didn't get that impression from the article. I suspect it was a blitz attack (the stabbing, not necessarily their arguing), and I doubt people had the time to intervene. Think of the shock and the pause necessary to process "did I just see what I think I saw?" The fact that a number of patrons chased the guy shows that they were not cowards. I take that as a good sign.
Too fast. The most somebody could do was tackle him as he ran out, and that would be if they even noticed something was happening which they might not if nobody was yelling.
“why on earth did all those people just stand around and watch it happen?” ............ Because they were unarmed tourists? Chances are, if it was around early bird special time for “local” seniors, someone would have pulled a gun to stop it.
At least our students are not mowing each other down.
And they observe reciprocity with Pennsylvania.
I'll take my chances with a knife against a firearm any day.
You would have preferred a shot-out at the likes of Columbine and VT?
I’ll take my chances with a knife against a firearm any day.
It may make you feel better to pretend that you have free choice, but you are still a disarmed subject.
And a citizen with a concealed handgun could have stopped the two killings your cite. Those are perfect examples of what can happen where you have British-style disarmament.
I prefer guns to be in the hands of responsible people who respect them and know how to use them.
Is there a point you are replying to? If so, please quote it.
.
Same reason they stand around and fail to point out your capitalization error.
It is defunct. The guy that was running it quit to go to law school.
Perhaps we could keep the racist comments down to a low roar?

I didn't see a racist comment on post #1.
My point was that guns belong in the hands of “responsible” people. An armed citizen is not necessarily a responsible one.
Only if you think the murder rate by firearms is acceptable.
Got to go to work now.
Thanks for a spirited discussion.
FRegards,
Please POINT those comments out.
I will wait with zero anticipation.......
