Denny's Waitress Stabbed To Death In Front Of Customers, Tourists

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 40-year-old Denny's waitress was fatally stabbed in the neck and chest in front of dozens of customers and children at the tourist-filled International Drive restaurant, according to police.

Witnesses said the victim was met by her boyfriend Alejandro Casa, 47, Sunday night in the lobby area of the restaurant located at 7660 International Drive and Sand Lake Road.

Casa approached her and then repeatedly stabbed her with a steak knife before being chased out of the restaurant by other employees, according to witnesses.

Casa dropped the knife and lost a shoe as he fled the scene, police said.

"(The victim) was an employee and she was working on the floor when a Hispanic man walked in and attacked her viciously and intentionally," Orange County sheriff's Capt. Steve Lang said. "When he finished the attack, he was chased out of the restaurant by several people. He got away from those folks. We set up a perimeter but so far, we have not found him yet."

The homicide comes during a crime wave at Orlando's tourist spots, WKMG-TV reported.

Tourists said they were shocked to see the stabbing.

"I had dinner last night here and the lady who got killed was the woman who served my wife and I," Orlando tourist Juan Luis said.

"Even in England we have our problems but unfortunately there is a lot of violence and things like that going on," tourist Karen Wilkins said.

Police did not release the name of the victim because they said they were concerned about her children. Deputies said her children were missing late Sunday.

Investigators also said the victim recently obtained a restraining order against Casa but it had not been served.

Anyone with information concerning this crime is urged to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

It may have been a tourist restaurant.

I-drive and Sand Lake are in the heart of Orlando's tourist area.

You are missing the point here.

WHAT RACIST COMMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS THREAD?

Calling someone an illegal alien isn't racist. Nobody said that domestic disputes are typical of the Hispanic people on this thread.

You owe everyone on this board a sincere apology.

And get yourself a English dictionary before you put your foot in your mouth again. Oh wait -- did I make a racist comment here? /sarcasm>

"Perhaps we could keep the racist comments down to a low roar?"

What race was the perp and what race are the alleged violators of your policy in this matter? I really need these facts to further assess your accusations.

He may very well get the dirt nap.

Depends on whether he is legal or not. If he's an illegal, they'll just tell him not to do it again, give him $10,000 and wish him a nice day.

I’ve actually seen someone stabbed to death in a crowded bar. It’s amazing how fast it can happen

http://www.policeone.com/writers/columnists/ForceScience/articles/102828/

Originating from research by Salt Lake City trainer Dennis Tueller and popularized by the Street Survival Seminar and the seminal instructional video “Surviving Edged Weapons,” the “rule” states that in the time it takes the average officer to recognize a threat, draw his sidearm and fire 2 rounds at center mass, an average subject charging at the officer with a knife or other cutting or stabbing weapon can cover a distance of 21 feet.

something to think about.

Re:

#1 - If you would have read what I said, I posted that I didn't know if this story was about an illegal alien.

#2 - No, it's not uncommon, but that doesn't negate the fact that I'm tired of seeing hispanic names associated with crimes committed in news stories.

I haven’t read all the replies on this thread yet but I’m sure you’ll hear about the assertion that no classes are required for a CCW permit in FL! No classes if you’re prior service military or an LEO, otherwise definitely required.

Yes - nice pics! and Duncan Hunter's fence is really TWO fences with a barren space in between so illegals can be seen and Border Patrol can catch them more easily.

“Note that it is easy to get a Florida Carry permit. No classes, required. Just ask for their application, get fingerprinted, and send in the hundred bucks or so. Visit packing.org for more info.”

Wrong. You have to show proficiency with a firearm. There are several ways of doing this but they all involve taking a firearms safety course at one point or another.

My mistake. I probably forgot that I simply sent in the certificate of the brief course I took in my home state. Not needed for Fla. renewal.

But unlike some states, there is no need to schlep to Florida and take a class from one of their certified trainers.

Beelzebubba, you got this one absolutley wrong. I’m starting the
process of getting a permit. There’s more involved than just asking for one.

I stand corrected. The process is easy for an out of stater who has taken the course needed for his own state’s permit.

The key point is that you don’t need to visit Florida to get a permit.

Sounds like a really good fence. No wonder many in Washington want none of it.

Clearly, there were a lot of people who didn’t stand around and let it happen. A couple of stabs can happen before nearby people are even aware that anything is happening. Some of the people reacted to the event such that the man ran out of his shoe to get away.

Yes, England is more violent.

You can probably find more recent evidence.

Too bad the honest, law-abiding tourists who arrived via airplane were disarmed before they even arrived.

It can be a small headache, but you can have a gun properly cased and declared in your checked baggage.

I’d avoid O’Hare for this, however.

Don’t know about all violent crime, but their murder rate is about 1/3 of the USA.

http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/guncontrol_20010302.html
* The percentage of the population that suffered “contact crime” in England and Wales was 3.6 percent, compared with 1.9 percent in the United States and 0.4 percent in Japan.
* Burglary rates in England and Wales were also among the highest recorded. Australia (3.9 percent) and Denmark (3.1 per cent) had higher rates of burglary with entry than England and Wales (2.8 percent). In the U.S., the rate was 2.6 percent, according to 1995 figures;
* “After Australia and England and Wales, the highest prevalence of crime was in Holland (25 percent), Sweden (25 percent) and Canada (24 percent). The United States, despite its high murder rate, was among the middle ranking countries with a 21 percent victimization rate,” the London Telegraph said.
* England and Wales also led in automobile thefts. More than 2.5 percent of the population had been victimized by car theft, followed by 2.1 percent in Australia and 1.9 percent in France. Again, the U.S. was not listed among the “top 10” nations.
* The study found that Australia led in burglary rates, with nearly 4 percent of the population having been victimized by a burglary. Denmark was second with 3.1 percent; the U.S. was listed eighth at about 1.8 percent.
