Events on this day in music history, August 31st:
2006 - Lil' Kim appears at the 2006 MTV Video Music awards fresh from prison, wearing a business suit that is a far cry from the skimpy getups of her past.
2004 - Carl Wayne, the former lead vocalist for the hit-making '60s U.K. band the Move and the latter-day singer for the Hollies, dies at his home in England after a battle with cancer. He is 61.

2002 - Lionel Hampton, one of the last of the jazz giants, dies from complications of old age and a recent heart attack in New York City at the age of 94. Hampton, an innovative vibraphonist and bandleader, had been in failing health for several years after a series of strokes.

1998 - Madonna files suit against the YMCA to prevent it from building a high-rise residential tower near Lincoln Center in New York City. Madonna files the action because the building "creates a hazard for me and my child." Madonna uses the recent fall of scaffolding at a Times Square high-rise renovation as grounds for her suit.

1996 - Opera singer Ljuba Welitsch dies at the age of 83.
1995 - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum opens in Cleveland. The city is argued to be the birthplace of rock beginning in the rooms of radio station WMMS, where disc jockey Alan Freed coined the term ``rock 'n' roll'' in the early 1950s.
1991 - Metallica's self-titled album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's pop album chart.

Wow, Grace can belt it out! What a great band. I’ve got a CD to buy. Thank you!
Obviously I’m a little late watching all of these videos, but I love that song. Blast from the past. Thanks for posting it.
This weeks steaming hunk alert comes not from the world of music, but from the world of tennis....
David (pronounced Daaahveed) Ferrer advanced today at the US Open.
You're welcome. ;)
It's amazing how well Elvis could perform while so obviously wasted. Kind of sad, actually.
I better post some actual music before I get kicked off the thread. ;)
I hope I didn't post this last week. Love the song, but the video is laughably pathetic. Enjoy!
Peter Gabriel-Modern Love
Um, HOS (husband over shoulder)! Lovely.
He may be from Tulsa but think he was born in Lawton,Oklahoma, home of Ft. Sill. I have loved Leon Russell since 1972 and I wish someone had a video of the original "Leon Live - Out in the Woods" performance. I also wish I could find "Cajun Love Song.", "Back to the Island" and my favorite, "Manhattan Island Serenade."
Sitting on the highway in a broken van
Thinking of you again
Guess I'll have to hitchhike to the sta - tion
With every step I see your face
Like a mirror lookin' back at me
Sayin' you're the on - ly one
Makin' me feel I could survive
And so glad to be alive.
Nowhere to run there's not a guitar to play
Messed up inside and it's been rain-in' all day
Since you went away, Manhattan Island Serenade
Sitting on the highway in a broken van
Thinking of you again
Guess I'll have to hitchhike down the high - way
With every step I see your face
Like a mirror lookin' back at me
Sayin' you're the on - ly one
Makin' me feel I could survive
And so glad to be alive.
Nowhere to run there's not a guitar to play
Messed up inside and it's been rain-in' all day
Since you went away, Manhattan Island Serenade
Since you went away, Manhattan Island Serenade
In retrospect very sad! I suspect cranking out performances may have caused some ennui too.
I do indeed. I haven't heard of her before but that song is very good, thanks!
Here is Mr. Sausage himself: Jimmy Dean - Big Bad John
And here is Mr. Hot Dog: Big Bruce - Steve Greenberg
What a queer thought, one of the first video faerie tails.
Do we get one more posting day because of Labor Day?
