There are at least two problems I see with the alleged connection of HPV with oropharyngeal cancer. First, the HPV virus is ubiquitous and such cancers are very rare. Second, the prevalence of HPV is approximately the same in men and women, yet the rise in oropharyngeal cancer is seen only in men. Clearly, there must be some unstated co-factors involved.
