we just have to be careful...there were some illegal immigration stats going around the Net a few years ago that were claimed to have come from the L.A.Times that were as bogus as a three dollar bill.
These numbers appear to be legit or Senator Shelby has some ‘splainin’ to do. LOL
Although I would feel better if I could find the F.B.I. and/or I.N.S. link for these numbers which I haven’t been able to locate...yet.

Most of this is from an old email.
Some is true, some isn't.
Snopes has some of the facts. This was true:
Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare
Although illegal aliens are not generally eligible to collect public welfare benefits, an illegal alien may receive benefits under the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and Food Stamps programs on behalf of his or her U.S. citizen child. (Any child born in the United States is considered a U.S. citizen, regardless of the parents' immigration status.) A 1997 General Accounting Office (GAO) report determined that in 1995 households headed by illegal aliens received a total of $700 million in AFDC benefits and $430 million in Food Stamps.
If they were getting OVER 1.1 BILLION over 10 YEARS AGO, can you imagine how much money they get now?!!!???!!!
