No, Ashton Kutcher has not commandeered my keyboard, and no, this is not a really early April Fool's Day gag: Funny lady Janeane Garofalo is joining the cast of 24.
Although details of the casting are few and far between at this point, what I can tell you is this: 1) Come fall, she'll be a regular, 2) her character is a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season, and 3) since the comedienne's persona often brings to mind Mary Lynn Rajskub's prickly Chloe, the potential for on-screen fireworks is greater than it has been during any of the show's previous bomb threats.
For that matter, there's a good chance that there will be a few explosions behind the scenes, too, since the Ben Stiller Show alumna is legendarily liberal, and 24's executive producer, Joel Surnow, is notoriously conservative.

First they hire a lesbian actress to play the president, now this notorious liberal............they are pushing me to my limits........I think I will wait to watch till the reviews come out.
She must be the first lady for the first woman president.

Rush comes on as a fan and the left can’t torpedo the show fast enough.
At least they're keeping Chloe on the show, so we know they haven't lost all their marbles yet :)
About 10 years ago, Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) replaced Janeane on The Larry Sanders Show. They better not pull a reversal. Haha!
24 has NEVER been a good show. I watched the first season while deployed...it built surprise by by plot twists that were surprises simply because they made no sense.
In the very first episodes, the guy helping to look for Jack’s daughter was actually a bad guy trying to kidnap Jack’s wife. Why was that a surprise? Because he could have done so at any time by pulling a gun and taking her...there was no reason at all for him to wait until he had killed the daughter’s friend.
Indeed, in any sane scenario, he would have just driven up to the house, pulled out a shotgun, and told both wife and daughter to come with him or die. Since he instead pretended to be a concerned parent for several episodes, it was a ‘surprise’ when he turned out to be a bad guy.
This was true repeatedly throughout the first season. Every major plot twist was only a surprise because it made no sense whatsoever.
Only mind-numbed idiots would waste time watching 24.
I’ve noticed older Family Guy episodes really spread it around. They have had some great Clinton barbs, as well as some at the right. In the most recent season or two it seems like it is all aimed at the right, and more out of anger than humor in many cases. Not sure if they have some newer writers that are using the forum to express themselves, or what. I have found myself watching less because I like to watch tv to get away from real life issues - work and political.

From what I've seen, that's true as long as the political ideology is conservative. I watched Family Guy a LONG time, and never saw them do anything but trash conservatives and promote leftists. In my opinion, it got worse and worse as the show went on, and the Kucinich plug was the last straw.
/mild thread hijack off
As for 24, I've enjoyed the 3-4 seasons I've seen. Don't have TV (HOORAY!) so it's always been on DVD. Can't say I'm happy to hear that Garofalo is joining the cast (unless, of course, she dies a horrible, agonizing death.) As others have expressed, hopefully this isn't pandering to the left by the producers, in the same disgusting vein as Fox did by hiring Geraldo and others. ("Fair and balanced" my a$$ - they infuriate me with their coverage more often than not.)
Someone posted a comment about Kiefer Sutherland's real-life political views - he's a lib too?
I’m out.
Between President Hillary clone and Ms. Garafolo I give up. No more 24 for me.
U O me a K bord
Aw . . fret not. Garofalo’s character is probably going to be some sort of villain undercover double agent who gets knocked off after a while. They come, they go in Hollyweird. - By the way, what happened to Jeanne Smartt?
This may be the first season I don’t watch.
You can refer to my tagline for a good idea why.
Every time I the “Jane Fonda For the New Milloonium” my blood pressure goes up 10 points.
Let's just say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the Sutherland clan.
LOL. One can only hope.
Garofalo is not the first left-winger to appear on 24. James Cromwell (Jack’s dad) is as far left as she is. Also, the actors who play(ed) David Palmer, Martha Logan, Bill Buchanan, Teri Bauer, Bill Buchanan, Nadia Yassir, Adam Kauffman, Sandra Palmer and a couple others have given donations to Democratic candidates and/or moveon.org type causes.
Still the reason the pick is surprising is that her character was described as SEXY and a POSSIBLE LOVE INTEREST for Jack Bauer. She may be a good actress/comedienne, but sexy she is not!!!!
As what? The wicked witch of the west?
Now I suddenly have no desire to watch “24” this season.
24 is DOOOMED!
